How to Save Money at Parkwood Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google

I recently switched to Parkwood after my initial vet wasn’t able to give a proper and thorough diagnosis for my cat’s inexplicable skin problems (per the recommendation of my cousin who is also a vet), and I am so so glad I did. Dr. Kyra Cameron is the absolute best medical practitioner I’ve ever met (not even out of vets, but out of human doctors too 🥲). She is so caring and has so so much knowledge. She had a plan and explained everything to me, leaving no leaf unturned and making sure every option was explored. She gives her full and undivided attention to her patients, doesn’t take any shortcuts, and gets to the bottom of the problem. I left feeling so heard, confident, and reassured. I will never go elsewhere to another vet again

We can’t give enough praises about this fabulous veterinary clinic! After being to several vets across the city and different provinces over the years we've finally found our forever home with this loving and caring team. Ourselves and our fur baby Belah have had the absolute pleasure of meeting both Dr. Cameron and Dr. Kim. Dr. Cameron is truly top-notch – you couldn’t ask for a more thorough and compassionate veterinarian. She takes her time to explain everything and ensures you understand what’s happening with your furry friend. It's clear she treats every pet as if they were her own. She treats Belah like royalty, and we're pretty sure she's got a secret stash of treats just for her! Dr. Kim is equally amazing! He's always ready with a smile and expert advice, He's incredibly caring, knowledgeable, and always ensures our Belah gets the best care possible. Belah can’t wait to dash through the front door on appointment day to say hello to all her new friends. From our family to yours, thank you all for being so amazing! 🐾❤️

Absolutely outstanding hospital and staff. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this truly incredible facility and the services they provide. Hands down the best hospital I have ever had the privilege of bringing my furry friend to; you and your pet will be treated better than royalty at Parkwood. From the time you first walk through the door and are greeted by the best of the best customer service representatives, to your interactions with the superb/experienced veterinary technicians and doctors, to the time you walk back out, I can assure you that you and your pet will feel heard, seen, taken care of, and at ease. If your appointment is running a bit late, please remember that they also operate as an urgent care hospital and the most critical patients require medical assistance ASAP…in other words if your pet is healthy enough to wait, be thankful! These people dedicate so much of themselves and their lives to taking care of every detail and I can’t believe the people of Ottawa are lucky enough to have access to the care they provide. Standing ovation to the Parkwood Animal Hospital team!

Dr.Cameron saw our border collie Daisy for her vaccines and to check out a spot of concern on her chest. Dr.Cameron was very thorough and informative and truly stood out to me. We recently put down our other dog at VCA bells corners and had a horrible experience which is why we switched to Parkwood Animal Hospital. I was understandably very anxious about Daisy considering our recent loss and Dr.Cameron put my mind at complete ease. She was very personable and even helped give me information on the province I will be moving to at the end of the summer. 100% would recommend Dr. Cameron, she really cares about your pet the way she would about her own animals. Thank you Parkwood, I have already recommended Dr.Cameron to everyone in my family and they ALL want to book with Dr.Cameron now. AMAZING.

I’ve never been to a veterinarian clinic where my dog is this excited to get inside and see the doctor. This place is spectacular! Dr Cameron cares for my puppy as if it were her own. Professional, intelligent, and achingly kind. My dog absolutely loves her and sometimes fakes being sick just so she can go spend the day. She is thorough, smart and always looking for a solution even outside the usual box of diagnosis. Plus Dr Cameron knows how to manage owner worries and anxiety and doesn’t ever give up. Dr Cameron literally saved my puppy’s life…there aren’t enough stars in the sky for this review!!
