How to Save Money at Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This review was translated from the dog. Hi, this was my very first visit to this emergency clinic. My tummy wasn't feeling good for a couple of days. They made me feel welcome and treated me so well. Did I mention they gave me liver treats several times.es to make me feel at home. This is a great place, and I highly recommend them 2 paws 🐾 up. Oh, and my owner said the prices were good too. Don't forget they give you liver treats, and I am feeling a bit better already

From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, every person that we came into contact with at HREVCH was professional, caring, compassionate and so understanding. I can’t express my gratitude enough. My son and I brought our dog Kobe in after injuring his paw. He is now healing and will soon be chasing squirrels again. Thank you to everyone at the office as teamwork clearly makes the dream work. Special shout-out to Dr. Wattson for her impeccable skills and beautiful nature. Hopefully we won’t have to come back. Just know that if you’re faced with an emergency situation with your pet, you’re in safe hands at Hamilton Region Emergency Veterinary Clinic Hamilton.

The team at HREVC is nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I made that initial panicked phone call on a long weekend, they were compassionate, reassuring, and genuinely caring. Their love for animals is evident in every interaction, and it made all the difference during a very stressful time. The clinic itself is spotless, peaceful, and even has lots of parking, which is one less thing to worry about when you’re in a rush. What truly sets HREVC apart is how much they care for your pet as if they were their own. My kitties are pampered and adored at home, and seeing how the staff doted on my cat with the same affection brought me immense relief. We were seen quickly, treated with kindness, and left with the necessary medication in hand, feeling so much lighter. I can’t express enough how grateful I am for the entire experience. They turned a nerve-wracking situation into one where I felt supported and confident that my cat was in the best hands possible. Thank you, HREVC, for being there when we needed you most.

Our two year old cat, Odie suddenly became very sick over the Labour Day long weekend. With our regular vet in Caledonia closed, our next closest option for immediate care was this clinic. We are very grateful for the doctors, technicians, front desk staff and everyone else at the clinic who not only collaborated on his care, but also took the time to answer all of our questions with a sympathetic ear over the holiday weekend and most importantly got him back to health for us. They gave us lots of check-ins during his nearly 30 hour hospitalization and they allowed us in on the decision making related to his treatment plan. We get the feeling that they do all really love animals there- which we greatly appreciate. We read a lot of reviews online about cost, and yes it was expensive- but it was emergency care during a time where every other clinic was closed, and without their help we don’t believe it would have been such a positive outcome for poor little Odie. We are glad to know this place exists so we always have somewhere to take our animals should we ever need emergency care again. Thanks to this clinic, Odie is healthy and happy at home once again🐾
