How to Save Money at Etobicoke Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was just reading some of the review comments and I used to have the same feelings 5 star, but the management is now living on the reputation of staff from the past in less than 6 weeks the management has let go almost all of the staff that have cared and helped our loved ones for years. I am a 9 year client it is impossible to believe that all of these caring people have done so wrong to have no longer have them care for our family members and you know who they are because you do not see their faces anymore it is like going to a new vet now not our vet so let me say a special thank you to Dr. Bruce, Dr. Ali, Cheryl, Andrea, Daniel, and Kassie. Just like the management let them go with no concern for us, I am letting Etobicoke go and follow the people who we have grown to trust with our pets (family members) we can follow them easily it is funny how other Vets have hired them but they were such bad employees that they had to go and next visit ask them if they are now corporation owned ? google to find your vet I am Other Vets have now hired them to care for their patients because of their outstanding reputations see you guys soon Glenn

My mom and I have been coming here for years. They are always really attentive and kind to our pets and us. I recently passed by to have my new puppy checked out and we met with Dr. Jeung. He was awesome! I really appreciated his care to our puppy by distracting him with treats when he was getting his first shots. All in all, very good. The prices are also reasonable which is a plus.

I am changing my 5 star rating of this clinic to a 0 today, I am so shocked by what hiring the clinic has made. I do not want to defame anyone and hence I have named the Doctor in person to the clinic but not here... I have been a regular in this hospital for 8 years. Even for regular checkups I was never overcharged or asked to do something which is not required. The doctors used to have compassion and a civic duty to help our furry friends. My dogs name is Oscar and is a golden retriever and was recently attacked by a dog unfortunately.... and the recent visit was dreadful. My dog was as chirpy and active and playful as he ever is meeting new people. The initial assessor was a girl and told us everything looks normal and not to worry.. which any normal person would do. However as soon as the doctor walked in, the tables turned. I am not sure if the lack of communication skills is what went wrong or there are some other reasons, but the doctor entered and without even touching my dog said " he is not doing so well", and here i am sitting next to my dog who is jumping with his tail wagging to meet a new friend. I was then suggested that if there is difficulty to trim his hair, he can put him on anesthesia and shave to reveal the dog bite to which I disagreed hearing about the horror stories on anesthesia on dogs. If it was life n death situation, I would have definitely opted for one, but just ti reveal the dog bite, I can't imagine to have him on ansthesia. Oscar was inside for 2 hours, where the doctor confirmed the wound is infected and needs a 7000$ surgery in a different hospital where they would keep him overnight and do the surgery the next day. 7000$ to take out pus from a wound. I am sorry, I am might be totally coming from a different world but sounds completely unreasonable. He said he will take out the pus as much as he can and intermediately kept coming to ask us to take the decision and now suddenly the cost was quoted 3500-5000. I have other friends who have had cancer surgeries for these prices for their dogs... and hence I am now going for a second opinion. This unfortunate experience has left me hopeless and how the world has come to such inhuman behavior with no love and compassion. Hospital needs it good doctors like it used to have before.

This vet clinic used to be ok. Now I could not recommend this place to anybody in good faith. The level of carelessness I experienced for a simple vaccination appointment for my dog is astonishing. It had been a while since our last visit and I had been taking my dog elsewhere for his yearly vaccines. I made an appointment requesting a specific vaccination and provided up-to-date vaccination records as soon as I arrived. The staff failed to communicate the reason for my visit and the presence of new records to the doctor, Dr. Badross Sherif. Once in the room, the doctor failed to ask or consult me about vaccination history despite a 2 year gap in their records. Having requested a specific vaccination, I couldn't have imagined that the doctor would proceeded to administer vaccines which were unnecessary given my dog's last dose, and which I had not asked for or consented to. He also neglected to tell me what he was giving my dog during the appointment, and I blindly and mistakenly trusted that he was acting as I had asked. After the appointment, the doctor came and left a number of times while I was at the front waiting for the bill to ask me questions about my dog's vaccination history and whether he goes to daycare. I assumed this was to try to schedule future appointments/vaccines, so I let him know I had provided all of the updated information to his staff upon arrival. He neglected to inform me at this point that he had administered the rabies vaccine to my dog—a vaccine he received 6 months ago—and another which I did not ask for. Only upon being invoiced and handed my vaccination certificate did I realize what had happened. I confronted the doctor about it, and he took zero accountability, instead assuring me that he had spoken to the staff member responsible for not passing along the updated records, and that there is no risk of harm to my dog. He seemed sincere in his understanding that this was unacceptable and that my dog had suffered the stress of a vaccine (which was less than pleasant to administer) for nothing. My dog is still crying in pain every time he lays down from a second shot he did not need. To top things off, the front staff incorrectly reduced the price of my appointment and charged me more than what the doctor had indicated. I also received a "save the date" for my dog's next appointment almost 8 hours after requesting at the front desk that it be cancelled because I will not be bringing him back here, ever.

My family has been coming to this clinic for over 10 years. Today I brought my very ill dog for an appointment and was apprehended by the front desk claiming we owed close to $400. Me and my family bring our puppies for vaccinations or if they are ill and never in the past year have we heard of any out standing payments. They claimed that due to an updated system we now have an outstanding balance and therefore could not attend my shaking puppy. They also claimed to have sent us emails, letters to our home and phone calls and when they showed us the addresses they were all wrong. I have came to the clinic recently and was not told about any out standing balance, you can imagine how caught off guard we were hearing about it today. After we found card statements and receipts of the exact transaction the manger came in, she saw the proof and STILL did NOT help our dog. We pleaded with them to take in my dog because it was not our fault they attempted to recharge us for a service done earlier this year, however instead we got a cold shoulder and left with my dog shaking in my arms. It is inhumane to see a small puppy shaking in discomfort and not taken in due to new management faults. We will not be returning to this clinic, we are extremely disappointed in how this situation was handled and will be contacting authorities.
