How to Save Money at Animal Eye Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They saved my cat's eye. She had a severe corneal ulcer which was melting the eye tissue, and would have likely led to a rupture and complete loss of her eye if we didn't bring her here. We first started noticing symptoms at the end of February and took her to a general practice veterinarian who weren't able to properly help her, and I am so glad we started coming to see Dr. Gwin instead. I took a lot of pictures to show the progress of her eye. It is a night and day difference after the surgery we had on her eye on March 5th. With full disclosure, I probably spent over $3000 at this office for several visits and the procedure itself being about 2/3rds of this amount. However, I don't regret it for a second and I felt like she was in great hands the entire time.

My dog, Oscar, was diagnosed with diabetes six months ago. After three months Oscar went blind almost overnight. A friend recommended I take Oscar to see Dr. Gwin at the Animal Eye Clinic. Dr. Gwin recommended that Oscar undergo cataract surgery in both eyes. Within 2 days after surgery Oscar regained all his eye sight. Truly amazing! Just look at that face! Thank you Dr. Gwin!

I really appreciate the expert evaluation and care Dr. Gwin and his staff provided for my dog. They not only improved the condition of my dogs eyes to prepare him for cataract surgery, but they also referred us to an animal dermatologist and scheduled a same day appointment to help with his skin issues. Since we traveled 2.5 hours to Oklahoma City to see Dr. Gwin, we were very grateful to also see the dermatologist during the same day. They truly go above and beyond.

Worse office ever! They literally make up diagnoses for your animals just to get paid. Believe the reviews this man is a con artist. The mishandled my dog as well as didn’t answer and questions or helped me. They were quick to ask me how i was going to pay instead of the reason for the visit. They lied and said my dog is far off worse than she really is and to go get more test done DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! HORRIBLE DOCS AND OFFICE STAFF! I have told everyone about my experience

Took my litter of 5 8 week old Ibizan Hound puppies in for Eye Certs. Front desk staff-A+++. The rest? If there was a grade below an F, I would give it. Dr. Gwin never uttered a single word to me, my puppies. He manhandled the 1st on the table by grabbing her and pulling her to him by her throat. He never talked to her, never tried to sooth her. When she screamed, he acted like she was going to attack him (they are 8 weeks old and as sweet as the day is long), he threw his hands up in the air and said he wasn’t touching my puppies and left the room. His tech stayed behind and he called her out of the room. I heard her say “no, we are going to do these puppies. We will just bring them in 1 at a time”. I wish I would’ve loaded them up right then. They took my puppies from me one at a time and checked their eyes. When it was time to leave, I was asked to go to the front desk to collect my OFA papers. When I walked in, the sweet receptionist told me the doctor wanted to speak to me. I said “well, that’s strange because he hasn’t uttered a word to me since he walked in the room.” He came out and told me their eyes were perfect. He then said “see you soon!” And I turned around and said “ not in this lifetime”. He ended with “suit yourself”. I am so thankful that I have raised confident, happy puppies. One move like his on a not so confident sight hound could ruin them for life. I don’t care if I have to drive to California for eye certs-I will never darken these doors again. Rude, unprofessional. I have worked for vets my entire life. You can tell when a vet loves his job and the animals he serves and when a vet is in love with money. Dr. Gwin definitely fits the latter.
