How to Save Money at McGee Street Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Weaver and the whole team is fantastic! They sweet-talked and cooed at my German Shepherd like she was an angel, even though she was a super rude drama llama. We were referred to McGee Street by a local trainer after I shared a bad experience we had at another local clinic. I appreciate that Dr. Weaver took his time time building rapport with our dog and examining her on our first visit. He confirmed that she would need a small surgery, and we scheduled a time to come back for that. After surgery later that week, Dr. Weaver came out and told me how it went, what he found, and answered all my questions. He had discharge instructions and medications ready for her, and I noticed they even clipped her toenails! We are one week post-op today, and her incision is healing BEAUTIFULLY. There are no lumps, folds or bulges. The hardest part has been following the instructions and not letting her run or jump. Pricing is extremely reasonable, and they don’t try to sell you services you don’t want or need. You are quoted pricing ahead of time, and they don’t try to sneak other charges in. I am glad we made the switch to start seeing Dr. Weaver!

First time to meet with a veterinarian. 6 meek old female Star was taken care of completely, and we will definitely return regularly for our sweet new addition to our family.

We have used this clinic for our 3 dogs for the past 2 years. The vet himself was always good, helpful, and friendly. However, the front desk experience is rarely smooth. It takes several minutes to check in, check out, etc. even when we have been there many times prior and no information had changed. We began using only their boarding services at some point. And that was a good experience 5 or 6 times over the past 2 years -- until now. Their rates increased by 30%, and when we picked up our dogs after a 5-night stay, they smelled bad, their blanket was wet with urine, and they seemed extra glad to be home. These are all things that have never happened after prior visits. Given the slow and inefficient reception desk, and now the seemingly poor boarding experience for the dogs, we will be finding a different spot to board our dogs when we have to leave town.

While I LOVE Dr. Emmert, I saw Dr. Weaver today and he was just was wonderful as Dr. Emmert! The vet techs were so sweet to my Pomeranian (Sheldon). I've never had a bad experience there & I've been going for several years. After reading some of the reviews, it's probably best to budget for more than the estimated services. For instance today, Sheldon was supposed to have his heart worm meds etc. I just thought he was due for Bordetella. I figured his appointment would be around $125 or so but I budgeted for $200.00. I didn't ask for an estimate when I made the appointment so that's on me. I wasn't upset at all. It's like taking your child to the vet. Your kids and animals have to be examined to ensure that they are healthy! My ONLY complaint is that I wish the groomer had available appointments but she's amazing and it's hard to get in with her!
