How to Save Money at Northside Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They do not allow you to stay with your pet during the euthanasia process. Or at least that is what Reagan said when I called to schedule, as my regular vet is out of the office this week. 0/10 do not recommend. If you love your pet like family and they have been with you for more than a third of your life, you are hopefully planning to be with them all the way through to the end. I would never, ever abandon my puppers at the end of her life. Shame on this place.

The best vet and groomer in the area. My furbabies love the groomer Shelby. My peke adores her and looks forward to the groomer now. 💟💟💟💟 Dr. Jamison is very compassionate and caring. Affordable services as well. 👍👍👍👍👍 July, 2023 Animal Angels 😇 Today Northside gave a lil kitten the best chance it has for good health and finding a loving and caring home. These people are the best ❣️❣️

This is my 13 week (at the time) Shih Tzu, Swaxea. She was dropped off a little before 9 AM (Monday 9/27/21) for a TRIM and her second dose of shots, I was called to pick her up after 3 PM. Upon picking her up I voiced that I was unhappy with her choppy cut (although I left VERY specific instructions TWICE) and when I made it back to my destinations I noticed one of her eyes were bloodshot red and she acted like she was coming off a sedative almost. I brought her back, in tears, and they sympathized with me as if they understood my frustration. Later that night both of her eyes were bloodshot red as a result of TRAUMA (confirmed by Dr. Voss) while receiving her grooming earlier that day (WITH SCISSORS). The groomer (Shelby) apologized if she’d accidentally hit her in the eye and claimed pictures had been sent to the head doctor to determine if medication should be prescribed. She later admitted that she lied about pictures being sent and I voice my frustration about that as well, and was reimbursed my $35 grooming fee. It took her eyes about 1.5 weeks to clear up and she literally didn’t act like herself for days. I made it clear I was cutting ties with the groomers portion of this establishment. Here we are almost three weeks later and just 15 minutes ago when I called to confirm her appointment for Monday, I learned that they removed my appointment for her third dose of shots (Monday 10/18/21) due to “slandering” them at Voss’s office and they “think it’s best I take my baby elsewhere because I’ve slandered them and asked for all her shot records as if I were leaving” (which Dr. Voss needed before her visit 9/29/21). Candy at the front desk HUNG UP IN MY FACE when I tried to get answers as to how I slandered them by telling only facts that needed to be provided pre-visit (never raised my voice or showed aggression). I’m disgusted with their service and since sharing my story I’ve had so many people come forward with horror stories of their own, including Northside Vet killing two of their dogs and their third getting parvo while staying with them. Others planned to unenroll. Their prices are affordable, but don’t be cheap when it comes to your pup’s safety and transparency with your vet!!!💔 This isn’t typed out of spite, but to spread awareness and facts that I didn’t get unfortunately. Below are before and after pictures.
