How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I found a beautiful stray. He was very ill and I was hoping to nurse this guy back to health and have a good pet/furbaby…. He was so sick. Too far gone. The staff were so good to us and him. They treated us with dignity and respect. I can’t say enough good things about the wonderful staff and the kindness they showed to us. I’d highly recommend bringing your furbabies here…. I will from now on. I wish I could give them a 6 star review.

The Banfield Pet Hospital (Broadway location) is AMAZING! I have been taking 1 pup there for a few years and recently added a 2nd pup. Every single staff member I've encountered has been great. They truly treat your pets like their own. They're kind, passionate, and caring.

I called and scheduled an appointment for my dog that I had just adopted from the Animal Welfare Center because she had a double ear infection. I asked what I could do to help her until her appointment because it was a couple days out and they told me not to do anything. I asked about flushing the ears with an apple cider vinegar mix and was told no, that is bad for them. She scratched at her ears until they bled. Her appointment was cancelled because the vet decided to go home early, so we had to reschedule until even later. Once we finally got her in they quoted us one price, when they called to tell us she was ready to be picked up they more than doubled the price to more than $250 for a checkup (which was supposed to be free for the adoption) and an ear infection. When we picked her up they gave us 1 medication but charged us for 3. When we asked about it they went to the back for 5 minutes and got the other 2 prescriptions. Guess what one of them was, an apple cider vinegar ear rinse. Then the girl at the front desk tried to book a follow up appointment for a date before the dog finished the treatment they prescribed. I have no faith in this vet and will not be taking my dog back. 100% do not recommend!

I had high hopes considering I’m an ex banfield employee (2014). I went in to get a free exam for my cat and also some vaccines that she needs, because we are moving to Japan. Dr.Hallum was late to the appointment, and then handed me a stack of papers saying that I needed to get my cat microchipped the same day as the first rabies shot. I’ve already done my research regarding what needs to be done, and that isn’t true. Japan requires the animal to have their microchip either before, or the same day of the rabies vaccine. In the moment I didn’t question her, because she’s the vet, but after doing my own research, i realized that I was basically robbed $50 for a second microchip, and my poor cat had to be stabbed again for no reason. I then asked her about the other vaccines my cat needs and she said they weren’t necessary. Upon filing my paperwork, I just found out that they are necessary. She didn’t even provide me with a rabies certificate, they just told me to use the app. If you log onto the app, it just says “rabies vaccine, Dr.Kallum.” That’s not official documentation, I was supposed to be given a certificate. Because I had a free coupon for the exam, they didn’t even look at my cat or assess her. They just gave her the rabies shot, microchip that she didn’t need, and sent us on our way without all the documents we need. Needless to say, I won’t be returning and I’ll also be reporting this Banfield for bad practice. What’s the point of an exam coupon if you’re not even going to give an exam? And now I have to waste more time and money getting my cat more vaccines, and I have to reach out to this banfield to get the rabies certificate that I was legally obligated to, for the vaccination. The portal is so useless honestly, I don’t know why anyone would recommend using that app. The horror stories I constantly read from Banfield really make me wonder how this place is still running. Go to you local vet, support them. Not these money hungry crooks.
