How to Save Money at Village Vet Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot express adequately the great skill, experience, and compassion of the entire team that handled our diabetic cat, Eli. Our Eli suffered from what was finally determined to be an incurable fungal infection secondary to an oral fistula into his sinus cavity. They worked closely with us for over a year while we fought to keep Eli in a good quality of life zone. When Eli's bad days exceeded his good days, we made the very difficult decision to put him down. The compassion of the staff during this procedure was above and beyond the call of duty, especially Javier, who kissed Eli on the head as he carried Eli out of the room for the final shot to lay Eli to rest. We received the sweetest sympathy card with a note about Eli from everyone who had a hand in his care. I highly recommend this veterinary clinic to anyone!

My cat became very ill and was hospitalized at Village Vet for 6 days. The staff was VERY friendly and compassionate and they kept me informed daily on my cats status. They even let me come and see him for a little bit while he was there. Dr. T went over and above to make sure she ruled out every possible reason he was so sick. She is very knowledgeable, dedicated and compassionate and she never once gave up on him and genuinely wanted him to get better. Her treatment plan worked as he is back home acting like himself like nothing was ever wrong with him. I HIGHLY recommend Village Vet , Dr T and all of the caring staff. They all treated my cat like he was their own.

Best vet ever. I would like to update my post. The people who work here have such a love for animals. My bearded dragons named stich and my best friend in the hole world Thor. We're laid to rest (at different times)and it felt like my hole world was crashing down around me. The people who worked there were so supportive. Though one of the most painful times in my life. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my fur babies and my reptiles who are like my children. My dog loki is not the nicest guy in the world not only are they patient with him they understand not all dogs like people or other dogs. If you are looking for a vet or needing one. Village vet is the way to go.

I can't rant and rave enough about everyone here. Every single person in the building makes it so obvious that they love every animal that walks in that door. They have been taking care of our fuzzy and scaly family for nearly a decade, and I would never recommend anywhere else. We have a special needs cat that is highly allergic to all sorts of food and has a really narrow diet. We had went to three or four other vets trying to figure out what was wrong with the little guy and just kept getting told no he's fine we finally brought him to Village vet where they sat and listened to all the other treatment and test we've done and the first thing that popped up was have you ever had him tested for allergies? And it's like a cat can get allergies? But low and behold a couple weeks later, when the results came back, he's allergic to all but like two brands of cat food nationwide. We made the swap, and within just a couple of days, my little guy was doing so much better it was a night and day difference. They've taken care of our rats, snakes, geckos, dragons, and cats. They've also handled the two cremations we've had to do in the last several years with so much care and compassion. Overall, it doesn't matter what kind of pet you have. I will always recommend Village vet.
