How to Save Money at Goodworks Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

EXPENSIVE!!!!!! To say the least . But money isn’t usually an issue when it comes to my animals ! I’ve gone to Pittsburg for pets . But there are several issues I’ve had starting with way over priced and not in a prices rising stand point because I’d worked this field . Let’s start with two hour atleast wait and I’m always 30 min early to help them out ! I’ve never missed an apt I’ve had my mother take my puppy due to Covid so I didn’t miss my apt at that . Charges 70 almost for an exam feeee people I’m telling you I’ve lived in four states this is the most I’ve paid ! You only pay 120 fo an emergency apt in pa . Secondly they miss diagnosed my puppy for kennel cough when my mom brought him in so probably spreed that around the office ! I had to come in and get meds because he wasn’t getting better . Second apt yells at my kids and gives me a hand out on how to teach kids with puppy’s I’ve raised many loving dogs my kids were just fine it was normal playing . 👌 instead of charging for just a vaccine booster apt they charge a regular fee of 65 bucks ! Ok two my third FINAL apt ! 215 bucks later again not mention almost total of a grand in the last two months I needed a urinalysis done because I was worried about my pup so they ran a sample after my dog just drank a bowl of water said it’s to dilute clearly cuz the water in my field we would have taken a cysto included because that is a false sample due to the bowl of water he drank ! No they wanted morning urine ok cool never heard that but would make a small amount of since so I did so went to drop it offf and they want to charge another 60 bucks !!! For their mess up ! So now I’m out 60 bucks no info a dog that will probably see another vet so I can receive answers instead of a vet who wants money . And I know this because why would you want to see a puppy in a month just to see if his teeth came out he’s four months old 😩😑 so they can get another 65 bucks . Please I hope you read this I’m not trying to get off on free test I’ve spent 1k but this is ridiculous. Not to mention another hand out on potty training 😂👌 this last apt because that’s what’s wrong with my dog that is peeing while drinking and etc problems that connect to an actual issue . These handouts though 👌

The prices are a little high, but their personal caring is amazing. After losing a pet in May, they sent me a condolence card and then a Christmas card after that. Very caring and kind folks there.

4 stars bc they are pricey! But, ive been to another place in town & Good Works is worth every penny! They r very thorough & the vets take the time to explain & answer all your questions! You will never feel rushed or invalid! I loved that its an updated facility bc it portrays pride & professionalism! And its clean in there! Every single person that Ive encountered, who works there has been kind, gentle & loving to our pets. Also, we received a welcome postcard signed by the staff with a beautiful bible verse on it explaining the reason behind their name, "Good Works"...very unique indeed. Thank you for being an upstanding & trustworthy clinic where we can bring our fur babies! God Bless!

We just paid $380 to have a 20 y.o. 5# cat put down. $188 for cremation & disposal. Think these prices are very high.
