How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I do not remember the name of the staff who helped us with our dog but they are truly so understanding and comforting. We took out older dog in when he was shutting down and they gave us the best advice they could. They let us have our last goodbyes for as long as we needed. Thank you Banfield for helping us with some of the worst decisions having to make. We appreciate you guys! 😊🙏🏼

I do not recommend this vet to anyone. I can go on and on about how unreliable and unprofessional this vet really is. For one their wellness plan is over priced, and totally not worth it. For my two dogs it came close to $80 a month, to keep there shots up to date. My older dog got diagnosed with a toe mass, this vet, did not have any doctors who were “qualified” or knew how to remove the tumor. So I had to call around to other Banfields and vets, they couldn’t even help me out with finding a good vet who knows how to remove toe masses. They couldn’t refer me anywhere?? To make matters worst, I had to wait 3 weeks to get my dogs test results back from them. They claimed I would get it within a week. And her tumor grew twice the size. Every time I called to get an update, they had an excuse, or the vet was on vacation. When my dogs had to renew their flea meds, they couldn’t even call into to Costco, since they were so understaffed. You can’t pick up the phone and call it in? Really? The wellness plan did not save me any money in the long run, for my dogs surgery it came out to about $1,600, and they claimed if I upgraded my plan I would get a big discount, obviously that wasn’t the case. So glad I didn’t. And last, to cancel my wellness plan and not having it renew. It was such a pain, I had to call 3 different numbers and apparently they were all close. It’s like they didn’t want me to cancel my plan. So convenient for them. You have to speak to someone else, in order to cancel the plan, you cannot speak to Banfield. Almost sounds like they don’t want to deal with you. Please, save your money and go somewhere else. Where they have good service and people who actually care about your pets.

Very inconvenient made an appointment for my little guy I was called to confirm the appointment two days ago and when I arrived there’s nothing they could do and wanted me to reschedule. For that matter I will not be bringing my dogs to this location horrible customer service I had to do many things to get here today. Will take it as a lesson well learned

I can’t deal with this place. When I went for my appointment with my cat to get him neutered the lady said that my cat was still bleeding out and there was nothing they can do about it. They told me to go to med vet that was in north olmested. So I drove 30 minutes from Parma to north olmested while my cat was still bleeding out. Med vet said they messed up the stitching. They wanted me to pay for the med vet visit but I refused and made ban field pay it. I come back months later with another cat and they tell me months before my appointment was at 2 and I come in and they say I’m too early and that my appointment is later, then I call to reschedule today after a couple months of me not going, I called 20 times!!! And no answer. This place is ridiculous. I cannot stress this enough. Don’t come here.
