How to Save Money at VCA Morris Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Sometimes in life, we meet people that will go the extra mile to support and help us. They make it their mission to serve from their hearts. I have to say that this clinic has been the most dedicated to that mission that I have experienced in a long time, if ever, and I have only visited once. Dr. Sahr and the team at this clinic treated me with such great compassion, and I would absolutely, highly recommend you bring your fur baby here. I can state with full certainty that I will return for all of my veterinarian needs. Before this, I had been going to my regular vet for nearly 15 years, so if anything would be a testimony to the quality of care we received here, it would be that I'm switching clinics as a result. UPDATE - I have been using this vet for some time now, and can only amplify my previous statement here. Dr. Elsea, and the entire staff at this vet hospital are truly godsends. I recently had to visit an alternative vet, then ended up coming back to Morris for long term care and a second opinion, and am so glad I returned. If I can help it in the future, I will never visit another vets office. Morris gets a 5 out of 5 rating from me. The photos are just some of the kitties they've helped. 🙏🏽

Don't waste your time & money. We took our 7 yr. Old dog because out of No Where she had a huge lump under side. Without running any tests, ultrasound etc. The Vet. Said without any uncertain terms that our dog has "Breast cancer". Vet. said to basically take dog home and make her comfortable OR take this 2 page list of Tests, procedures (which btw, over half are pointless) example: X-ray for breast cancer?! Needle aspiration (Which only shows cancer %50 of the time. Vet also Highly Suggested getting our dog "Fixed". Why? Dog is over 7 yrs. Old and cancer is still a 50/50 regardless of being fixed. Our dog had diarrhea for 4 days after Vet. Visit because they fed her Treats, Dog food, Peanut butter the whole time to get her to stay still for exam. Who Does that?!! 🤬 I've raised dogs for over 30 yrs. And I understand Not to change a dog's diet like this.... If you want a Fortune Teller; go ahead and pay for this Scam. If a Real Veteanarian is what you need, Go Somewhere Else!

I’m not certain how the person taking phone calls/scheduling appointments (Lisa) is still employed at this office, but she could really use some proper training on how to communicate/listen to people who are coming or calling this location for their pet’s needs. The first interaction I had with her, she wanted to argue with me about how my pet’s name is spelled/pronounced.. It’s Simone, nothing too complicated & something that didn’t need to be argued about. Secondly, I called in to confirm whether or not this office offered long term allergy solutions for pets & instead of attempting to get an answer from someone who knew how to help… she wanted to argue again & tell me that I needed to schedule a visit for a simple yes or no question. She has an entirely too stuffy & argumentative attitude to be working in an environment that’s supposed to be helpful & inviting.
