How to Save Money at Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Ballard, Dr Carpenter and staff are amazing. I have been a customer for over 16 years! I started with Cody and then Cooper. Now we have Brittany and Bailey. All of these fur babies are mini dachshunds. Recently we lost our little Cooper. They were wonderful. I can’t say enough about this wonderful practice, the staff and doctors really care about my pets and me. Pictured are Puppies with Olivia and Molly!

I could go on & on about how amazing the care at Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital is. My family has been taking our dogs here for as long as I can remember. Their passion for animals & the extra mile they go for our fur babies is so appreciated. From the front desk (Olivia, Anita, Berkeley), to the tech’s, to Dr. Ballard & Dr. Carpenter themselves. I truly couldn’t imagine taking my pets anywhere else! Their standards to provide quality and the most updated and evidence based care is so important and they go above & beyond. My English bulldog, Gunner (my soul dog 💔) crossed the rain bow bridge this past March. Bulldogs come with a lot of health issues that can be complicated and require ongoing treatment. Back when I first got him, I established his care with Dr. Ballard. He got recurrent pneumonia at a young age due to respiratory issues & Dr. Ballard, with thorough explanation and weighing risks vs benefits, strongly suggested that he have surgery to improve his respiratory function and breathing quality. After the surgery, Gunner was an entire different dog. He finally could play, eat, and live his best life without being in respiratory distress and I truly thank Dr. Ballard for being so passionate & persistent on the severity of his condition which helped him live his best life through the years we had with him. Thank you to all your staff for caring so much, loving my fur babies like they’re your own, and the exceptional care you continually provide! It means more than you know 🫶🏼

This place is fantastic. My family has been going here for years with all of our cats. My husband and I moved farther away and still find the 30 minute drive to Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital well worth it! They are simply phenomenal and only provide the best services for our kitties. Mandy was especially helpful, and answered all our questions with a wealth of knowledge and our best interest at heart. Thank you,

Would give more than 5 stars if it was possible. Cheshire Crossing has been our vet clinic for nearly a decade. They are not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. The doctors are current to all cutting edge practices, take time to educate you as a pet owner, and give your pet the very best attention and care. At this clinic, you’ll be well informed and prepared and supported to make any decision regarding your pet’s health. The administrative staff and vet technicians are also incredible. From preventive care to behavioral issues, surgeries, chronic disease management, we couldn’t be happier with our dogs’ care and outcomes.

Dr. Ballard helped us with a care plan after our dog nearly died from meningoencephalitis at only 4-years-old. The emergency care was done at Medvet, but thanks to Dr. Ballard we have been able to keep her healthy and happy and she is now 10-years-old! I highly recommend Cheshire Crossing Animal Hospital.
