How to Save Money at VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I’ve been coming to VCA Sawmill for several years, and the care we’ve received has consistently been top-notch! From the moment we arrive, the staff makes us feel welcomed and valued. Dr. Allison Brys, along with Dr. Waters and Dr. Bethel, are all incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely compassionate. They take the time to explain everything in detail and address all my concerns with patience and care. The level of attention Buddy receives is exceptional, demonstrating the team’s dedication to the well-being of their furry patients. The facility is clean, organized, and equipped with the latest technology, which gives me confidence in their care. If you’re seeking a veterinary practice that truly prioritizes your pet’s health, look no further than VCA Sawmill. They have left a lasting impression on us, and I am truly grateful for their outstanding service!

if i could put 10 stars i would. we had called everywhere looking for a place that would help us in the financial situation we were in, along with a time crunch that had my dogs life on the line. we called, explained our situation with no hesitation the man at the front desk had us come straight to them, immediately got my dog examined & got her into surgery, didn’t even want us to worry about setting up a payment method until it was time to pick chewy up. the man at the front desk, to the ladies that kept us updated, to the doctor himself, everyone was so helpful & hopeful. Chewy has made a full recovery now & is better than i could’ve imagined. This place is a blessing & we can’t thank them enough ❤️.

I recommended my friend to this clinic. She said that Dr. Mendoza was a very attentive and thorough doctor and will be happy to comeback. However, it was very difficult for her to communicate with the staff (receptionist and nurses) as they do not have personnel that speak Spanish. I hope they change that soon so they can help the Hispanic community.

My cat’s hind legs were not acting well so I brought him to this VCA . We saw Dr. Mendoza who was very friendly and helpful, and he helped to tested my cat’s glucose even when it was already very close to the time he gets off. Because of his extra care and being responsible, we found that my cat got diabetes. It was a lot to take at first, but he and all the other staff kindly directed me through all the steps to take. We are looking forward to seeing better results in the near future. Overall, I feel it’s a great relief and comfort to have such a great doctor for my cat. VCA is also great with its friendly staff, clean environment, easy communication, and long operating hours. I would strongly recommend!

Today was my first visit to VCA Sawmill Animal Hospital. When I first got there the building was clean and organized. I was greeted by the front desk staff and I checked in for my cat's appointment. 5 minutes later we were taken to a room for Prince to settle in and get comfortable. Doctor Katie Ash was so helpful and nice, she loved Prince and the appointment went very well. Service, customer service and cleanliness 10/10. Totally recommend this place for your pets!
