How to Save Money at Main Street Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr.Hays and her staff made what I thought was going to be a horrible day so much better. I called almost in tears because my girl had been vomiting a lot and they were able to see her immediately. The clinic was so clean and nice. Did not have any animal smell to it, just clean air. The staff gave us a warm welcome and made all Of us feel comfortable. The vet, Dr.Hays, is a rare gem. She was very patient and loved how she informed us on what was going on with my girl. Elise(my girl) is doing remarkably well Only a few hours after the visit. They gave her some meds, dog food, fluid and blood work and it wasn’t as costly as the other clinics. I highly recommend taking your fur babies here.

As the owners/guardians/parents to five dogs my wife and I invest a lot of time and money into veterinary care for our furry lot. We “found” MSAH after we had added “Helga” (one of our GSD) to our family as a puppy and were concerned with her slow development and gastrointestinal issues. We had been going to another vet in the area and were unhappy with the care we were provided. This other vet seemed to “rush” us through, frequently felt the need to run multiple expensive tests, and was continually telling us to “be patient, Helga is still a puppy, she will balance out.” 3 months before Helga reached her first birthday and was only 55 pounds, we decided to stop putting our trust in the other vet and try MSAH. Within two days Dr. Wood and her team were able to identify the problem and start getting Helga back on track in her development. We received frequent check in calls during the initial treatment process and every time we would come in for follow up visits we were made to feel valued and important. It did not take us long to switch all of our dogs over to their clinic. Since we have started with them, all of our dogs have been seen by the staff at MSAH. From routine check ups and vaccines, to minor surgeries, broken tooth extractions, blood work, and parasite treatments, the value we receive is phenomenal. They are quick to coordinate with our online pharmacy to authorize prescriptions, help us locate specialized dietary items when our usual provider is out of stock, and EVERY time we walk through their front doors we feel valued and cared for. If you have a furry family member who needs a trusted, reliable, and caring veterinarian, look no further than Dr. Wood and her staff at MSAH.

The staff here is all so friendly and genuinely just as excited about your pet as you are. The facility is clean and modern. Scheduling is easy and straightforward as are costs and procdures. We had a dog that had mange since a puppy. We were never able to completely kick it though until we came here. And the solution they came up with was the easiest possible thing to do, just a normal flea and tick treatment that also happened to work well for mange (Bravecto). 8 years of suffering with mange and thousands of dollars in previous vet visits, all fixed in one visit with Main Street Animal Hospital (and a few weeks of healing at home). Our furry family member passed away just a couple weeks ago, and the last 4 years of his life were spent happy and non irritated and healthy; he was a normal old man in love with the couch and sunbeams and his human kids which he loved dearly. I wish we had come to Main Street FAR sooner. We now have a kitten who was in need of a vet visit, naturally we wouldn't take him anywhere else. 12/10

We had an emergency with our dogs. One of them was seriously injured from a dog attack. We brought Ava into the office, and immediately, the staff was taking her from us to examine her. She spent four days at the office, she received IV fluids, and had surgery. We were able to visit her whenever we wanted. Hillary was her main caretaker, and they became buddies. Hillary spent time with Ava and took excellent care of her. We are so thankful for the vets and staff and everything that they did to treat our girl!

Staff was very pleasant and also they didn't try to get me to get things for my dog that he didn't need. They are very friendly towards my dog and treated him as of he was one of there own. Will definitely be bringing my dog back for all future vet care.
