How to Save Money at Yonkers Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
The staff was friendly and very professional. Beau does not usually take to people, but he felt comfortable with their handling. They are a young staff who are eager to help. The vet was warm and caring and again Beau felt comfortable with her. He also had a bath. The groomer goes back 30 years and bathed my other dogs. It was nice to chat with this very special man. I highly recommend Yonkers Animal Hospital for your pets.

I have been using this facility since I got my pet, ( a cat) including the years during the pandemic period when the facility was sold and changed owners. I always made an appointment for whatever services I was bringing my pet in, which included all vaccinations, wellness checkup and spay/ neutering service. During the changeover, I did see a difference in the addition of more grooming services offered, which wasn't available prior, which definitely increased the number of people showing up un announced or ahead of their appointment time period (mostly dog owners) which caused a big backlog to the getting seen in time for the scheduled appointment. This year I was pleasantly surprised to see that the appointments are scheduled better with very little overlap and large amounts of owners and pets waiting in the waiting room including owners dropping off their pet for the grooming service. I arrived ahead of my scheduled time (about 1/2 hour) since I came by public transportation but was allowed to wait in the waiting room while waiting on my appointment. Each pet for the vet service visit is seen with the owner now present and the pets left for grooming are taken in once their owner had provided vaccination records to be received for the grooming. There was no walk-in service requested by any owner on the day I was at my appointment, but I overheard that during the the open hours, if there is a vet available, they may see the animal or at least provide a location where to get service if they couldn't. This is not a 24/7 emergency setting and the hours are limited to when they have vet services on hand. The expanded grooming service is also by appointment and does require that the pet have the required vaccinations. They also do a special grooming service for pets who need calming to be groomed (which may need the presence of the vet since the pet might need to be anesthetized to be groomed). Lastly, a deposit is required now ($75) which is applied directly to the bill at the end of the visit when paying. You do get multiple reminders via both text and emails (I chose to be reminded both methods) And you do get the reminders enough times to both remind you of the appointment and to make a change in time, but you can't last minute change the time at the appointment time because you will be charged that $75 if you don't show up as there's a reasonable cutoff time, to make changes. From my viewpoint, the YAH has fixed the issues which were problematic with the excessive walk-in show-up appointments. You do have to call to make appointments. It is run like a clinic with multiple vet, plus there's a grooming service by appointment.

A while back my cat Taiyo was sick from urinary crystals for the second time. The first time I had taken him to VCA where they took care of the problem and charged my $3000.00 for his care, but didn’t bother to tell me it was preventable. Sure enough he got sick again, but this time I took him to this small clinic in Saw Mill River Rd. Once again he was kept at the clinic for a week and operated. The charge? A meager $800. AND I was advised of what the condition was and how to avoid it!! It’s been about 8 or 9 years. He’s never gotten sick again thanks to the care received at this clinic!! Do not trust anyone else with your fur baby!

Worst place. These people are thieves, they are quick to collect a deposit but forget to mention their “cancellation fee of $75”. My dog was scheduled for grooming and shots, we paid $125 via telephone. We had travelled out of the country and ended up staying few more days due to flight cancellations. We came back sick with COVID the night before the appointment. We asked if appointment can be rescheduled because we don’t want to expose ourselves to anyone. Cindy the “manager “ verbalized that this will be considered a cancellation. I ask if we can still bring the dog in our sick state she went on to say that they are full for the day.

I have been taking my fur babies to this animal hospital for about 8 years. Recently, my little one Nico had some sort of skin allergy. I was able to get an appointment immediately. Everyone was so kind to me and Nico. With the treatment from the doctor, Nico began to feel better. She was so kind & reassured me that Nico would be ok! After treatment, he was more active and his playful self. Thank you so much Doctor & staff!!! Appreciate the kindness!! I’ll be certain to schedule in the rest of my fur babies for their follow up appointments. If I can give any advice, bring your fur babies to this animal hospital. You won’t be disappointed! Thank you all!
