How to Save Money at Central Vets Valley Stream
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
Very clean place. Quick courteous service. Of course you have to have the means to care for your pet. This is a business not the Humane Society. They took very good care of my Boxer “Nico” every time it was necessary. I’m sure they will do the same for or new addition, “Nera” a Giant Schnauzer.

I'm very disappointed with this place. It was my first time ever going here. I heard about it from a neighbor. My advice is read the reviews. I truly wish I had. Our dog was old yes. But a very big part of our family. He was sick so we had no idea what was wrong . I call them to ask about cost and services. A woman let's me know the fee for an emergency visit. I then asked "Do you have a payment plan" she says we offer Care Credit. As desperate as we were we applied for it. The clinic fees are exuberant! The veterinarian comes in and says we'll looks like he might have a blockage, issue with prostate. We will need him to stay overnight, intravenous antibiotics, sonogram, x-rays, blood work. He will need surgey to remove the prostate. SOUNDS HOPEFULL!!! Yup, we thought so and paid them. The following day we picked him up. They said give him these medications which was additional fees. His blood work is remarkable! He needs surgery and he will be fine. The cost was over $3k we took him home and decided to see if the ASPCA could see him. Unfortunately, they had appointments So, the next day we returned to Central and our dog was in discomfort. We saw a different Dr. Who was very nice, knowledgeable and explained everything to us. Keep in mind we took our dog on December 19, picked him up on December 20 and returned with him on December 21, 2022. This Dr says his condition is untangible. It's best he be put to rest "Im sorry" cause surgery is not the best option. To many other things to worry about Stent, etc. Thank you for your honesty! We had brought him back ready to pay for the surgery with hope, to be told otherwise this was like being hit with a brick. He was suffering couldn't walk or stand up and he was crying. We wanted so much to save him. We had already paid over $4k and I feel like if we had been told this from the other 2 Dr's I had spoken with if, they had been fully transparent. They weren't they gave us hope, they made it seem like yes, have the surgery he will be fine. In the end he passed away on December 21, 2022. Beware of places who put money first!!! Read the fine print they know Care Credit will allow you to dispute charges. So they wrote down owners are aware dog is in serious condition. However, this was not communicated to us verbally. Your at your most vulnerable and they perhaps take advantage of your siruation the love of your precious animal. Your signing the papers in distress and not reading everything. Our mistake! I think they should be fully transparent and verbally discuss all possibilities before jotting down a note. I would have appreciated it more. I also chose to leave the names of everyone out of this review. I do value respect. Perhaps you can be more transparent with your customers in the future. We miss him so much! He was cremated on December 24, 2022.

Anyone should think twice before going to this HORRIBLE PLCE. You will pay a high bill, you will not be treated with compassion, and your animal will be treated like a slab of meat and another opportunity to make money. They also have a "deal" of some sort with the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter where they rush lost pets to their deaths and ring up a high bill without following the procedure of trying to find the lost pets owners. Just look up the story of Toast & Spirit. Stay far away from this place.

I brought my dog and cat to this animal hospital twice and both times were a great experience. They were very honest and very caring towards me and my animals. I recommend friends and family to this hospital and they were very great full for the doctors and vets that took care of the animals. I would recommend this place to anyone who needs emergency care for their furry friends.
