How to Save Money at Zen Dog Veterinary Care PLLC
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently had to put our Cocoa down after 14.5 years. Dr. Ray arrived on time and explained the process. He then gave my wife and I ample time to say our goodbyes. My wife and I were able to hold Cocoa as he administered the sedative. After the procedure, he stepped outside to allow us time to grieve along with our other dog for a few moments. He was amazing, professional and I highly recommend Zen Dog Veterinary Care.

Dr Ray is FANTASTIC. He is a very caring and concerned vet. He was able to schedule an appointment within an hour of my call. Nothing was rushed. He gave me time to be with my dog explaining everything before we started. This at home service is the absolute best way to handle a difficult situation. The end is peaceful and there is absolutely no additional stress or anxiety for the dog.

It is very hard writing this review after losing our beloved pet Rusty on September 1, 2023. We were referred to Dr. Ray for a home euthanasia and he was the best vet for this job. From his very first phone call to us, we realized how kind and compassionate he was in such a difficult moment. On the morning for his appointment he texted us to let us know he would be a little, early, when he got to our house he prepared us for what the procedure was going to be, and throughout the procedure he never rushed us. On a final note, this is a hard procedure, but Dr Ray is highly recommended in our book, and in Doggie Heaven. Thanks Dr Ray!!

It is never easy to say good-bye and make the decision to euthanize an animal. Dr Ray brought both comfort and made us comfortable about coming to the decision in saying good bye to one of the best guys we known for 15 years, our sweet catGuhlee! Dr Ray's understanding, patience, knowledge, and kind words made Guhlee's send off a memorable one! There is nothing like saying your good byes in the comfort of your own home with a vet who has the compassion of Dr Ray! Thanks again Dr Ray from the advice you gave me on how to know when, answering all my questions and helping us with a difficult transition! 🐾🤍

I had to make the very difficult decision to put my 17 year old dog down last week. Having put down three others over the past two years, I knew that doing it at home was the only choice. My dog was never a fan of the vet, as most aren't. I didn't want his last moments to be fear. Dr. Ray made as easy as it could get for us. He was patient, kind, and brings the kind of energy into your home that you'd want for your loved one's last moments. He explained the procedure, and allowed us the time to say goodbye. We were not rushed, and he was sensitive to our grief and struggle. We also chose to have a private cremation. I already have a shipping notification from UPS that they'll be here tomorrow. It's only been 5 days. My last dog took 3 weeks. Our might Nacho is gone now, but he had one of the best days of his life. Dr. Ray, thank you for adding to the wonderful final day we gave that little guy. I'm adding a picture of him just to keep his memory alive. Much love to you. I don't have any dogs left, but I've already recommended you to some friends who have pets that are getting there. Thank you again.
