How to Save Money at Zen Dog Veterinary Care - At Home Pet Euthanasia

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Ray was very compassionate and caring. Since we spoke for the first time he gave me reassurance. Would recommend to anyone that has to make the hard decision of euthanasia. Doing it at home was good for both my pet and I.

The day we had to say goodbye to our beloved cat Tana, on December 13, 2023, was undoubtedly the most difficult and sorrow-filled day of our lives. Dr. Ray from Zen Dog Veterinary arrived just as he had promised. His professionalism was evident as he explained every step of the process to us, doing so with great kindness and empathy, acknowledging our pain. His gentleness and care as he wrapped Tana and placed her in the basket was truly comforting. His sympathy not only for us, but for Tana as well. His assurance that Tana would be treated with utmost care during the cremation process provided some comfort as we faced letting her go. Our experience with Dr. Ray was comforting during such a challenging time. When we received Tana's urn from Final Gift, our hearts ached with the loss of our beautiful Tana. However, seeing the care and thought put into packaging her urn brought us some relief. We are grateful to Dr. Ray for his compassionate soul and for helping us navigate such a difficult process. He earned our trust on that heartbreaking day we said goodbye to our precious Tana. Thank you, Dr. Ray.

I’m glad I found found Zen Dog and Dr. Ray to assist me in one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make, putting my 16 1/2 year old Maltese Niko to rest. I decided that in-home euthanasia was the best option for me, as I wanted my dog to be as comfortable as possible as he crossed the rainbow bridge. It was the least I could do for him after many years of love and companionship. Dr. Ray was not only compassionate and gentle, but maintained utmost professionalism throughout the entire process. He explained everything thoroughly so we knew what to expect. My dog was surrounded by his human friends, my other dog, and all his toys in his own home. I was able to say goodbye to him without feeling rushed. I added the pawprint stamp and it’s something I will treasure forever. With a rating of 11/10 for the entire experience, I can attest to the other stellar reviews for Dr. Ray and Zen Dog!

Dr. Ray was quick to respond when I called Zen Dog to put my mom's dog to sleep. Sadly, I've had to euthanize a beloved pet before. While that experience was problem-free, the experience Dr. Ray is able to provide in one's own home is ideal. I got to hold my pooch in an environment she was comfortable in as she gently passed away. This was as pleasant an experience as it could possibly have been.

When we found out we had to put our baby Gio down we knew we wanted to do it in the comfort of our own home. It was NYE when I called Zen Dog and I was worried with the holiday we would not hear back for some time. But Dr. Ray called us back that same day and walked us through the entire process and answered all of our questions. On the day he arrived promptly, allowed us time during the process to grieve and comforted us throughout - reminding us that we were doing the right thing. While it was the most difficult thing we had to do, I cannot thank Dr. Ray enough for relieving Gio of his pain and suffering and sending him to doggy heaven. We received Gio's ashes a few days later in a beautiful urn. Will be forever grateful that Zen Dog gave us the ability to say goodbye to our pup in his home surrounded by all of his favorite things.
