How to Save Money at Pleasant Plains Animal Hospital South

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

First I would like to say thank you to Dr. Longo and the nurse that assisted her for such professionalism and being so kind and thorough with Zions appointment. Not only did they squeeze us in last minute with an emergency we had but every one there from check in to check out was amazing. I appreciated that through every step of the way they discussed pricing with me. 10/10 would definitely recommend. And so would my dog Zion!

Terrible attention, BAD clinic, we spent a lot of money and the (woman) Dr. Pasquale Meleleo suggested that I put my dog to sleep, she wanted to kill my dog. I didn't like her way of speaking, she has no professional ethics nor tact, maybe she is a discriminator. I don't recommend this place to anyone. They love money $$$$$ instead of having compassion and love for animals, very disappointed. They are not a hospital, they are a clinic, but fortunately I took him to a wonderful hospital and no doctor has ever recommended that I put my dog to sleep, he is alive and improving after an attack by another dog

I have been taking my pets here for the last 5/6 years and have consistently found myself unhappy with my experience. I kept coming back due to the convenience of the location to where I live, but every time I took my pets here I was left unsatisfied and was given referrals to specialists or other clinics, etc. I never left with answers. Since leaving PPAH, I have found a new vet who is more affordable, accommodating, and just overall better. I am specifically writing this review because three years ago I expressed a concern to the technician and to the vet, and was told that my dog was experiencing pigmentation due to his coloring. I asked if my dog had pigmentary keratosis, as I had done my own research and concluded that myself but I was told no, it was typical pigmentation found in my dogs breed. after going to a new vet this month, I raised the same concerns and was told that my dog indeed has pigmentary keratosis, and left untreated my dog WOULD GO BLIND. My dog is now on prescription eyedrops for the rest of his life and could have been on these eyedrops starting from three years ago, but was misdiagnosed by PPAH. I have since taken him to an eye specialist and this has been confirmed again. I am writing this with severe frustration, but also disappointment that I feel PPAH runs and performs more like a business than an animal clinic. They charge office visit fees for follow-ups and rechecks that they request. I used to recommend PPAH to friends and family, and every single time they have come back to me with a bad experience or story. Honestly, I do not recommend this vet or their services, and I say this as a true animal lover. I will never return, and I will never recommend them to anyone. They make getting prescriptions extremely difficult as they will not cooperate with third party pharmacies like chewy, etc. If you are considering taking your animals here, I would consider other options.

We just found out my 1 year old cat needed surgery. Brought him here from the beginning they easily diagnosed his condition gave him the best care and also offered many recommendations for his care outside the office. All staff is extremely patient and kind as my family was calling a lot and asking many questions they had no problem speaking with everyone and reexplaining things. Were extremely insightful when giving us the diagnosis. Could not be happier with this vet office, the vets work in this location shows she has a true passion for helping animals. Recommend 10/10 times. would not bring my animal anywhere else after this experience.

Every experience at Pleasant Plains (both north and south) has been a good one. The Vets and the Technicians show true care and empathy towards our 3 pets. I recommend them to anyone who has pets.
