How to Save Money at Middle Country Animal Hospital PC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My partner and I have been clients of Middle Country Animal Hospital for the past 11 years. He and his family have been clients for the last 30 years. In total, we have four fur-babies and our eldest, Lucia, is 11. We have two Yorkshire Terriers and two French Bulldogs. All of which have been patients of Middle Country Animal Hospital since puppies. Unfortunately, after our most recent vet appointment; we will no longer be clients/patients of the practice. We had a scheduled appointment for all four of our dogs of which they accommodate for us in order to accomplish all of our dogs being on the same shots schedule. However and despite knowing that we travel with all of our dogs in a crate in order to secure them while traveling safely; our scheduled noon appointment turned into a 40 minute wait while having had all our dogs in the car/crate due to their currently still active COVID restrictions. It wasn’t until 40 minutes into having waited; that we decided to call the office ourselves from inside our car because we hadn’t heard anything from them. At that point; we had been informed that despite our appointment being for 12PM; “They were currently running behind schedule and that there were four appointments remaining ahead of us.” Mind you, this is now 40 minutes after our scheduled appointment and we had to take it upon ourselves; to call and obtain this information. After expressing our disappointment under the circumstances; we opted to cancel our appointment. A request to reschedule the appointment wasn’t asked by whomever we spoke with over the phone, nor was an apology extended under the circumstances. Instead, we were simply told to “Call the office back when we are ready to reschedule.” Unfortunately, leaving all of our dogs without their most recent required shots. Too make matters worse; we opted to send an e-mail explaining the situation at hand to the office with hopes of someone reaching out to us to correct the situation at hand, but it’s been going on a week since said appointment and we haven’t even gotten so much as a reply to our e-mail. That said, we’ll no longer be clients/patients of Middle Country Animal Hospital going forward.

Dr Cavallo & Dr Clark are the most compassionate, caring, capable Vets you would ever want to take care of your fur babies!! We have been coming to this office for the last 20 years They have taken care of 4 of our kitties over this time Recently our last kitty Diego developed cancer of the mouth. It has been the most difficult & painful time for my husband & I to go thru! They have guided us encouraged & empathized with us for the entire time. We are enjoying everyday with our Diego until its time to say goodbye! I highly recommend this caring, compassionate office!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🙏🙏🙏

We had to have our baby, Nahla only 10 years old, euthanized. She'd been battling epileptic seizures for almost 5 years and the last few did her in. She stopped eating, could barely walk, her breathing quick & rapid. I couldn't bare to see her suffer anymore. The Veterinarian was extremely compassionate and honest.

Went in as an emergency yesterday because my dog Waffles was having trouble breathing. Dr. Clark check him out immediately & the staff was super gentle with him & got an xray which showed he has Congestive Heart Failure & was put on oxygen until he was stable enough to take home. I even got a call a few hours later to check on how my dog was doing. 24 hrs later he's a different dog & doing great thanks to Dr.Clark & his amazing staff!
