How to Save Money at Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Seriously exceptional service. I came in for an emergency injury that my mom’s dog had to his nail during the time I was house sitting. The entire staff was incredibly compassionate and kind, and willing to work with the limited information I had on my mom’s pet. Rachel/Rachael was fantastic and very patient with my pet even when he was super nervous and acting a bit aggressive. We were in and out within the hour, and they only charged us for the work that they were able to do. Thank you so much 🫶🏻

I would research before you go here. Felt kind of like a scam. My cat was urinating blood/ producing very little urine (he still is). Brought him here, waited in the waiting area for 5+ hours over night just to give him an anti inflammatory / fluids and send him on his way. They take your pet from you while you’re in the waiting room, they also proceed to talk to you about your pet in front of everyone. I’m extremely upset. I called them as soon as I got home to ask if it’s normal that my cat is still not urinating after giving him the anti inflammatory and fluids and they said he will experience mild symptoms for 24-48 hours. How is it normal for a pet to not urinate for 24-48 hours? Woke up this morning and my cat is still not urinating. After being somewhere for 5+ hours you’d think they be able to tell you what’s wrong with your pet. would never ever go here again. save your time and money.

The most incredibly compassionate, attentive, patient (and physically strong) pet-people I have ever encountered. Helped pass my dog with dignity and were so gentle and understanding with him (and I) throughout, I have no words for their genuine love. Very grateful they were there in such an urgent time. Extended all options and talked through each step. Thank you all. Not a regular place, incredible staff. Prompt, caring, supportive, just amazing people. Cannot thank you all enough just so grateful you were there for us. God bless you all. Truly.

This place was amazing! I called in the middle of the night! They were kind and compassionate. The doctor took the time to thoroughly explain what the situation was. The receptionist was so nice! And so was the tech!! Be kind! They are working over nights to take care of our babies the best way they can! I am so beyond thankful they were open! Remember everyone is coming here in a crisis! It maybe quiet it maybe busy! But everyone is working their best to get your pet happy and healthy! Thank you!!

I will never bring any of my pets here ever again. It all started at the door. My cat is really sick (progressively getting worse over past 24 hours), and she really isn’t drinking today. She is producing very little urine, and clearly in pain, and they really didn’t want to be bothered with her. Everyone there really didn’t seem to care what was going on with my pet. I felt like I was begging them to help her. The staff was very cold towards us. I was not comfortable after they took her back and the tech said she “couldn’t get” her vitals. How do I trust that you can actually help my pet then if you can’t do that? Cat owners beware that they do not seem too concerned about any cat that comes in really. My cat was so stressed out, along with me and my husband having all of these dogs close together around us. Everyone was very close together and not even in a separate room. Absolutely no separation of animals what so ever for the waiting area. Very disorganized, dirty, and honestly not very safe for the pets or their owners. No compassion at all and if I could give 0 stars I would. They quoted us over 4+ hours, meanwhile they took pretty much anyone else back who had a dog in no time. Hopefully my cat makes it through the night. I’d never recommend this place to anyone.
