How to Save Money at Animal Surgical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The office in Oceanside is immaculate. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and really care about your loved ones. They made us feel welcome and reminded us that they are always there for us. We rescued a bulldog from Hurley’s Heart and between the Surgical Center and Hurley’s we couldn't be more grateful. We owe so much to Hurley’s and all that they do. Please donate if you can - they have so many bulldogs that need our help. Thank you Summer and the staff at Animal Surgical Center for making a scary situation (soft pallet surgery) less stressful. We are over the moon impressed.

I want to start off by apologizing for not doing this sooner. Life has been chaotic. Dr. Tomas Infernuso. Is an Angel from above !! GOD IS SO GOOD!!! I have a French bulldog named pork chop. I got her fixed in feb of 2020 from a completely different vet. The vet didn’t fix her correctly, causing my dog in 2023 of February to have stump pyometra ! she had blood and pus coming out of her area with a gross odor. I was doing homeopathic remedies, and when the two weeks surpassed The situation just got worse. She was on antibiotics and it just didn’t work. I called my normal vet at Bellmore veterinarian Hospital. My vet, Dr. Kevin Cronin referred me to his friend, Dr. Thomas Infernuso that was the best thing I could’ve ever encountered. I called on a Tuesday. Available to bring pork chop in on Wednesday feb 15, 2023 . I was terrified and very upset Dr. Infernuso was very helpful, very compassionate very calm and super helpful. They didn’t have pork chop on file so we did a bunch of bloodwork and tests and then they were able to do the surgery. Pork chop had to stay overnight that was scary but the staff was so helpful and they kept me up-to-date with text messages and pictures letting me know how pork chop was every step of the way. The following day I was able to pick up pork chop. They were very thorough with instructions and the healing process. We are now in the end of September 2023 and pork chop Looks like a completely different dog, healthy and happy. She used to have these really dark tear stains by her eyes and now they’re completely gone. The place was very clean , and modern I went to the location in Oceanside. I highly recommend and I will be back if my dog has any other issues. They are flexible with using multiple cards as far as payment goes as well and they work with you which was so helpful they help fix your dog at a price that’s reasonable I thank God every day for helping my dog and i thank him for leading me to Dr . Infernuso.

*(HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION)* Our little son Clarence was suddenly not himself, and Animal Surgical Center was the nearest emergency that could take him. From the time that he was admitted through his healthy discharge nearly a week later, my wife and I were AMAZED by the staff's level of care and passion for what they do. We were visiting daily, and there was always a knowledgeable doctor available to explain in detail how things were going. We were made to feel at home: as if the staff were one family, and our cat was also theirs. The vet techs sent us photos and videos of his road to recovery, and were just beyond helpful and kind. Truly, we are indebted to the folks at Animal Surgical Center for saving Clarence's life, and for being such a support to us. THANK YOU ANIMAL SURGICAL CENTER!

I don’t know where to start. Tragically my dog was struck by a car, I had placed a call around 12:30 at night and they were able to schedule a consultation for me 24 days after she was struck. I came in and the staff was great, they all are empathetic and knowledgeable. Dr.Infernuso and Dr.Johnson were amazing. The receptionist Day was so caring, she really did help me relax and just guided me through all the steps. Financially this place is a saving grace and they took care of my dog Izzie so well. They just got right to work and I really do appreciate how much the team loved on my baby while I was not there. They keep you updated along the process as well. Highly recommend them for surgery services from my experience. Thank you all again. Facility is also very clean. And parking is Easy.

Our vet told us that Indy had a mast cell tumor and needed surgery to remove it. She gave us a list of vet hospitals. We chose the Animal Surgical Center in Oceanside and are very happy we did. Everyone from the staff behind the desk to the techs to Dr. Melilli was extremely professional, caring and friendly. They also communicated! We were called when he was heading to surgery. When Indy was in recovery, they sent us the picture below. And they called a few days after he was home to check on him. We highly recommend the Animal Surgical Center to all pet parents.
