How to Save Money at Niskayuna Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Nothing but good words for Niskayuna Animal Hospital! Everyone who works there is absolutely lovely, and Dr. Geagan is the best vet I've ever had. Her calm energy not only puts my cats immediately at ease, but me as well. When I had urgent concerns about one of my cats, they went above and beyond to fit me in and take care of my baby. The office itself feels like a cute cottage in the woods, with easy parking. Could not recommend them more!!!

I always have a wonderful and calming experience here. I’ve been coming here ever since I adopted my first cat a year and a half ago, and lately my newest has been wracking up some frequent flyer miles. Dr. Geagan is always happy to see him, despite all the sick visits we’ve been having, and the techs would snuggle him for days if they could. They love your pets like they’re their own, and they never shy away from throwing in complimentary services just because, like clipping my tiny boy’s little dagger nails. They’ve vouched for me in tough situations and have given me advice over the phone, sometimes giving me a call just to check in. It’s hard to find a good vet these days, but I’m more than happy I landed on this clinic. I always feel cared about here, even when I’m not physically in the building. I’ll continue bringing my kitties here for as long as I live in the area. Thank you Niskayuna Animal Hospital!!!

My dog has been going here since we first got him as a 2 month old pup. The Vet (Dr. Gagan) and Vet Technician (Jennifer) are always amazing. They have helped Leo through several problems (swallowing a sock, swallowing a stick which caused a massive lump on his throat that burst open, having a benign tumor on his foot). They are always so good to do what's necessary and making sure your pet is comfortable.

When i moved here 5 years ago i went with Rotterdam Animal Hospital. They are rude, have no compassion and only care about money. Niskayuna Animal Hosp is the exact opposite. They are compassionate, have empathy and listen to you. They saved my dogs life when Rotterdam didnt care to listen on a Friday and thought my dog needed tests that he didnt. My dog would not be here today without them. Thank you for all you do. Your the absolute best.

My grand pup Oscar has gone here since he was a puppy. For regular Ck ups and also for after care after 2 different dog attacks. Oscar is VERY attached to his mother and usually has anxiety when not with her but is so comfortable with the staff there that he goes with them with no worries. They are wonderful. They truly care about your animal. We actually receive phone calls after his visits to Ck to see how he's doing. They are also very thorough at relaying information to you as to what they need to do, have done, will need to do in the future and what you need to do. They take the time with you to answer any questions that you may have so that you feel comfortable that you have the knowledge as to what you need to do at home to insure that your pets health needs are met. I highly recommend and I do not say that lightly as Oscar means the world to us and we would not be going here if we did not have complete confidence in this facility.
