How to Save Money at URvet Care Midtown Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So thankful for an extremely compassionate and kind staff during our most difficult decision, allowing us to give a beautiful send off to our sweet German shepherd Rocky. We got to be seen on the same day the first time, and were able to book another appointment right away two days later on the same day as well, which is such a huge relief when your pet is feeling unwell and you just want to find help for them right away. Everyone made Rocky’s visits here SO special and happy despite him not feeling his best and I can’t express how much that warms my heart, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I hope you are all blessed ten-times more for the kindness and love you show others, I’m sure it’s not always easy on your end either.

They're great here. Not owned by private equity / hedge fund vultures like most of the nyc vet chains (looking at you, Bond Vet and Blue Pearl). They take time with your pet and are transparent about pricing. Please, URvet Care, don't sell to any of the corporations buying up all the vet practices, it will diminish the quality of care.

What a wonderful experience we had taking our cat Sophia there. We took our 14 yr old cat there for a check up because she has a mass tumor on her belly that we thought def could and needed to be removed. First appointment they only charged us for the first time exam fee and for her antibiotics because they treated the tumor area and gave her a cone to prevent her from licking n infecting the area. Mind you this is located in " Manhattan " so we thought they were going to charge us an arm n a leg but it was only 300 dollars and change. The second time we took her was two weeks later so that we could get her blood work done to prep her for the surgery on the next appointment. We scheduled it and they quoted us an email with her surgery price and said $2295-$2795 and my husband and I discussed it and said no way that's way too much its prob because it's Manhattan and the place is extremely modern , super clean and fancy, they got a Keurig to make yourself a fresh coffee, bottled water for you and treats for your pet. Forget this lets get a second opinion in the Bronx which is where we live. We found a place and got their 2nd opinion and they wanted $3600. So we gladly took our baby Sophia back to them and get the surgery done. Turns out and this was just today when we got the worst news ever. The Dr called us and told us Sophia has an advanced stage of cancer spread all in her lungs and that it wouldn't make sense to do the surgery. So she is in the last end days of her life and we are gonna enjoy every minute. They only charged us $50 and could've charged us today for the X-ray but they didn't . Overall they saved us sooooo much money . Not only that they treated us and Sophia like gold. So from the bottom of our hearts, myself, my husband Alex and Sophia we truly appreciate you guys. If anyone needs to have surgery for their animal I highly recommend Urvet Care.

I can’t recommend URvet highly enough. I got neutered by Dr. S and it was smooth as silk. Don’t worry - I still look quite handsome and was perky right after my procedure. The entire staff are loving and warm and care so much about me. I’m recovering quickly and I visit every day for a treat. I also highly recommend the meatballs. If you give kisses to KaryAnn or Diane or TBH - anyone - you might just get an extra meatball. 🐶🐶💙💙💙 Love, Bo
