How to Save Money at Oliver's Dog & Cat Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dog is 18 years old and has been going to Oliver's Dog and Cat Clinic to see Dr. Coronato for many years. Dr. Coronato has been instrumental in helping us keep our dog happy and healthy as she ages, both at her appointments and if we ever need to call in to ask a question. We definitely recommend her if you're looking for a vet!

Dr. Coronato, Fernando, and the rest of the staff are always a pleasure to be around! We have been visiting Oliver's Dog & Cat Clinic for well over 10 years, and I cannot recommend this veterinary clinic enough. Everyone is incredibly caring and knowledgeable, and they always make sure that both my pet and I feel comfortable and are well taken care of. I have a 14-year-old shih tzu who's very grumpy and not so friendly, but the staff never makes us feel like she's difficult to handle. Whether it's a routine check-up or a more serious issue, they always take the time to explain everything thoroughly and answer any questions we may have. I truly feel like they treat my pet as if she were their own. Thank you for all that you do!

This was my first time experience with this clinic for my kitten's first check up. Going through the reviews, this place seemed really promising. Some of the negative reviews did make me feel some skepticism as if it was a too good to be true kind of deal. The process for booking an appointment and walking into the clinic for your appointment was straight forward. They have the door locked shut and only let you in if you have an appointment booked (you need to call them and let them know you're here or on your way) and require face masks to be worn so keep that in mind. The location is pretty small so I would definitely come in during off hours. The staff was very kind and give off a warm and wholesome impression. Regarding prices for checkups and vaccinations at least; I wouldn't say it was cheap, but definitely more affordable than other locations in the city. They do require a non-refundable deposit that applies to your bill. It may be an odd practice to some, honestly I didn't really mind. I don't really have any complaints with this clinic and would easily recommend it for anyone looking for a decent and affordable clinic.

This vet was very caring and gentle with our pets! Both of my cats have some anxiety problems with new people, but the vet handled the animals with ease and care. Very quick and easy process. I would definitely recommend her!

Dr. Coronato and her team are just absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked through the door we were treated with the upmost customer service. She provides quality care at a reasonable price. My dog had a full mouth extraction and I was so nervous about putting my dog under anesthesia due to past experiences. Dr. Coronato made me feel a sense of comfort and safety I’ve never experienced before. Today, my dog is well and so happy. Thank you to Dr. Coronato for your compassionate care. From Lou and family .
