How to Save Money at ANC Veterinary Dental Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Maria and Dr. Surgeon were amazing. Both are extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and there is zero doubt they are true pet lovers who enjoy what they do. The facility is extremely clean, the technology is impressive with a top of the line X-ray machine and waiting kennels. I do not think we could have found a better place for our dog. Our dog came in for a chipped k9 with pulp exposure, we were honestly informed by Maria and the Dr as to risks, cost effectiveness, and long-term benefits/risks. Given that we were ready to pay for anything, Dr. Surgeon was so honest he ended up saving us lots of money and headaches. Our dog was in and out in a few hours and is now one happy dog! ***Also for anyone worried about cost, anesthesia is always expensive no matter where you go. Do the smart thing and have pet insurance!!! It's a life saver.

Absolutely the best. Let me start by saying that I’m a crazy person who treats my dog like a human baby. I love her more than anything in the world. She also has terrible teeth, common to her micro-breed. (Little dogs = little teeth = tiniest bit of decay can destroy a tooth in a blink.) Dr. Surgeon and his assistant Maria are AMAZING. The office is small and intimate and so welcoming and warm. The technology they use is state of the art and the doctor even showed me how the various imagining machines worked, and he explained in detail what he saw and what he did. He was so kind and thorough and honestly— I didn’t think they made doctors like this anymore. He’s like someone from a totally different era; so wise and decent. He told me “I still do this because I love the animals” and that’s clearly true. Maria was also so warm and loving to my little dog and I could tell my pup felt truly comfortable and at ease with her. I was so nervous about having my dog’s teeth dealt with but Dr. Surgeon and Maria honestly could not have done more to put my mind completely at ease. DO NOT HESITATE to bring your dog here. And please note, anyone who has left a bad review (go ahead and read them) is complaining solely about money. Well; no, it’s not cheap to have your animal go under anesthesia and have complicated surgical procedures performed. That’s why there’s pet insurance. I’m sorry if it’s going to cost you a lot, but that’s not a reason to blast a truly gifted and deeply caring doctor. No one can possibly have anything bad to say about how their animal was treated here, because it’s impossible to imagine Maria and Dr. Surgeon reacting to any creature with anything less than total professionalism and love. So glad I found them and so happy to be able to return for cleanings in the future.

So grateful to Dr. Surgeon for correcting a severe dental misalignment that continued for several weeks after our senior dog had surgery at another vet center for an epulis. We were fortunate to find Dr. Surgeon, because our dog's ongoing extreme distress, pain and weight loss (after healing from the surgery) had led us to consider euthanasia. He persisted and resolved the underlying problem. Today our dog is happy, healthy, and enjoying his elder-time (that's Wheaty below after a recent walk). I wish Dr. Surgeon had performed the initial surgery. As a human healthcare provider, I can say that he's the real deal - intelligent, skilled, compassionate - a true healer. And his staff is professional, kind, and communicative.

Doggy Dentist...I never knew there was one! We traveled 2 hours to get there, we were early, they helped us settle> I'm in the medical profession and they did everything correctly to put the dog under for the procedure which was extensive. Being my dog is in SAR I wanted to make sure the work was professional and the direct reviews from other K9 handlers that used them were positive. Dog was back in the flow that evening and happy! Mouth work was excellent.
