How to Save Money at Antelyes Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This vet clinic is wonderful! When my dog goes there he's excited to enter cause he knows they will treat him well. His dr. isn't there anymore and she was amazing! But, the staff there is so nice and Remy is always treated well. I recommend this clinic for your pets. I've only had good experiences here.

My dog and myself were dismissed without any compassion or interest in the nature of my dog's emergency for not having a previous appointment. Ethically and minimally they should have allocated space for emergencies especially if the patient is already in front of your office.

Tigerlily has been coming to this facility since she was about 6 weeks old. She’s never made things easy on anyone and that’s why I love her. However, she was covered in fleas when I adopted her and she still required bottled formula feedings. I couldn’t even use medicine on her because she was younger than 8 weeks old. I was a nervous wreck and the staff helped me find my footing and confidence as Lily’s caretaker. Months later, Lily developed an allergic reaction to plastic; they got me her ointment right away and never rushed me off the phone when I called with concerns. Then just over a year later, Lily developed pyometra, a serious infection in her uterus that required fast action and expensive surgery. I was torn up for 48 hours that felt like weeks and once again the staff, especially Dr. Colon, helped work with me toward a solution that made sense. Lily had a 50/50 shot at surviving and my resilient troublemaker pulled through! Fast forward to 2020 - COVID is rampant and healthcare becomes tricky, for humans AND for animals. They helped me navigate the unique appointment setup and talked me through my anxiety about Lily’s aggressive temperament whenever she feels nervous. The appointment was quick and I was called twice with updates and to be consulted about next steps. Even though we have moved three times since becoming a patient and now live in BedStuy, Antelyes is the only place I’ve ever trusted with my one true love, Tigerlily 💕

This placed help me when I lost my dog after 13 years. The loss happen unexpectedly within an hour I was able to drop him off to get cremated and they had his ashes back a week later. It was the easiest experience and I’m happy I went to them

Came here a few months ago, not my usual vet but now I think I’ll be back permanently. We came in when our mini Australian Shepherd broke her nail in an awful way, split in three with quite a bit of blood. She was in obvious pain so we brought her here the next morning. I’m terrible with names so I apologize for not remembering the vet and nurses names, but everyone was absolutely wonderful, and when it came time to put her under and remove the nail, I understood exactly what was going to happen, and felt confident in their abilities. Everything was done quickly, efficiently, and it didn’t break the bank (coming from a college student perspectve). I’d recommend this place to anyone and everyone, out of three vets we’ve used, this is my first choice.
