How to Save Money at Long Island Spay and Neuter

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had an amazing experience at LI S&N. I read every single review to find information on the stenotic nares surgery for French Bulldogs and no luck so here is mine! I was extremely nervous considering putting my dog through this but after multiple observations it sounded necessary as well as neuter. The receptionists were extremely kind and accommodating and very reassuring that this was a safe and regular practiced procedure. The day of, an employee took us to weigh him and gather more details on my pup. She was super sweet and also reassuring that Dr. B is amazing (which I’ve already heard from referrals). Next I spoke with Dr B and he also set all of my nerves to ease and advised I could call and check up on him and I would be called after surgery which were both true. I paid $500 for the nares surgery and about $200 for the neuter. I was getting rates at $4K for this surgery! I’m so happy this was possible for him. He went into surgery at around 12:30 and was ready for pick up at 3 pm. He was super sleepy during the ride home but the second we arrived he was ready to eat and trying to get back to normal. By night time he was back to himself. His nose is healing great and he hasn’t bothered at any of his stitches. Overall 10/10 experience!

I was recommended here! I had schedule a spay for my dog, and they made this experience so smooth for me and her both! First off Janice is always so fast and accommodating! I spoke with her to schedule my dogs appointment and she gave me all the information I needed! Not only are the prices fantastic but their service is top tier! Izzie was scheduled for a later date, but I called a couple weeks later to see if they had any cancellations and they did so she was able to get in at a closer date. Upon arrival- I was greeted by the staff, the wait time was less than 5 minutes. They answered any questions I had! I had not one worry leaving my baby behind. They gave me a time slot of when to expect her and they were right on time ( I don’t know if this is all the time) but this is my experience. Once I arrived I payed - and received more information for after care. Izzie also received the chip- The ladies at the front desk all were lovely and the staff! I definitely will be back. - I highly recommend- the incision was very small and neat. Again service was great ! The facility is very clean.

I took our Fin for a neuter and all I can say is the experience was nothing short of perfect. He was dropped off at 8:00 am and ready by 12:30 pm. He healed beautifully and hasn’t had any issues. The price was fair and cheaper than the last vet we had used for one of our other kitties. Will definitely be back in the future.

Always a great experience for all of the animals I’ve brought here. Everyone is so caring and wonderful. Had my kittens eye removed today and Dr Berger was amazing as always. Dr Perry had seen us a couple of times and was great as well! Thanks so much!

I have nothing but great things to say about Long Island Spay and Neuter! I was an anxious mess bringing my golden girl in to get spayed. All the staff were so kind and comforting. There was zero wait time. Dr. Berger was prompt and informative about the process. I was updated right after she had her surgery. I felt that my girl was in the best hands which helped put me more at ease. The facility is also so beautiful and clean. I truly believe that every fur baby they encounter is handled with the utmost love, concern and care. Thank you to all the staff and Dr. Berger!
