How to Save Money at Huntington Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Want to thank Dr Kramer for his years of service with my dogs. I also want to give a big thanks to all who work here. They are genuine and caring. Cathy is the best around and always happy to see her. Alesha for her great customer service skills. Big shout out to Meghan, Krystal, too. But most importantly, Dr Tiffany Miglorino. She has shown great. compassion for all of my dogs. Especially Louie, my oldest. Keep up the great work. Lola will be in soon for her annual physical.

Sadly I had to put my dog down & the whole staff was so kind and truly caring. They did not rush the situation or last moments with my dog whatsoever. I was able to leave with beautiful keepsakes of my best friend. Will continue to bring my other pup & kitten there. Thank you for all your care & consideration.

Great service! I got my Shepherd mix spayed here, and they took such good care of her! I really trusted Dr. Paoloni with the procedure because she’s extremely friendly and she really cares about the well-being of your pet. The environment of this office is super welcoming too; my dog wasn’t even scared to go in! And she loves to see the staff too! I highly recommend this place to those who want a welcoming and friendly environment for your pets medical needs.

When I rescued my pit mix, Diego, a close friend referred me to Dr. Paolini and Dr. Miglorino. At the time, I lived in Queens, NY, as was their office. I was immediately comfortable with both doctors. It was not just because of their knowledge and expertise, but because of their warm and caring nature. Diego knew it too. To this day, he absolutely loves going to see them. He's a little accident prone and has allergies so we see them often. I can tell you, we have a positive experience EVERY SINGLE time. Diego is treated, cared for and loved EVERY SINGLE time. Dr. Miglorino knows Diego so very well and is always happy to see him. Again, he is always happy to see her. She calls me personally for every issue and walks me through every step. When Diego was having problems with anxiety, Dr. Paoloni called me from her home on Dec 26. I couldn't believe it but was so appreciative. I could go on and on about the doctors but I must also commend the staff. All staff are equally WONDERFUL. They are also warm, nurturing, kind and patient. They listen to every word when I'm worried and help to calm me. I moved to Suffolk County 3 years ago, but i still traveled to Queens for Dr. Miglorino and Dr. Paoloni. I am fortunate that they have also moved to Suffolk County recently. It is 6 years later and I would follow them anywhere!

Beware of the new owners and administrators for Huntington Animal Hospital. My cat Fritz has seen Dr. Kramer for 9 years and everything was fine then I get an email from the office letting me know Fritz’s weight control medication was discontinued even though that was not the case. I called the office and learned that new owners for the practice had taken over and stopped his medication albeit by mistake, when they looked closer they realized the medication was not supposed to be stopped. I then received a courtesy call from the practice letting me know they would correct the issue and wanted to supply Fritz with a complimentary bag of his diet food which I appreciated greatly only when I drove to the practice to specifically pick up the food the girl tells me they made a mistake and ordered dog food instead of cat food, at that point I knew this was not the same practice, how does a vet practice not know when a pet is a dog or a cat. Scary stuff, will never be back
