How to Save Money at Ark Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am giving them 5 stars for a very good reason. I am currently living in Florida and we are amidst a hurricane so I am not able to go to the vet to get him checked. I am originally from Rochester NY so my friend thought it was a good idea to call her vet because they are her favorite. My dog got a double dose of his 4 medications tonight because two separate people fed him. I asked Bethany if he will be okay because there are “addictive” pain medications involved. She asked for all the doses and strengths and got back to me within two minutes saying that he is well within the limit for his size and breed. They reassured me that he will be totally fine but there might some side effects and proceeded to list them all so I would be totally aware. Bethany was absolutely fantastic and truly one of the kindest acting and sounding professionals I’ve ever had the pleasure of talking to on the phone. Go to this vet and ask for Bethany!! But I’m sure the rest of the staff is just as great💞 saved me the trip into a Hurricane!!!

Everyone at Ark was friendly and my dog, Phoenix was able to be seen quickly by the tech and the vet. The tech was very kind and helpful. She helped give the first dose of meds. The vet was very personable, knowledgeable and helpful. She asked questions about his breed and how long we’ve had him. She didn’t rush us and made sure I felt comfortable with what was being suggested for the after care. I really appreciated Ark calling me back when an appt opened up.

ARK is a gem in the Rochester area and we are very lucky to have them helping take care of our beloved pets. This is the second time we have called needing a same-day appt and they were able to accommodate and get us in. I am grateful they seem to have a large veterinary staff that can handle a decent number of appointments per day. Today we had Dr. Chris and she was thorough, personable, and incredibly compassionate in helping diagnose and take care of our senior pup. You can tell she is passionate about helping animals and their owners and we couldn’t have had a better experience.

Had to bring my dog in for an emergency stomach issue Friday before Labor Day weekend, as his normal vet was fully booked. Everyone there was wonderful. They were running late, which I expected. My dog's stomach issues weren't super urgent compared to some of the other emergencies. Everyone was thorough and fully explained what they wanted to do and why. Very good experience, not as expensive as I remember the other emergency vet being, and somewhere I'm happy is available for emergencies.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the gracious and helpful staff at Ark. My dog is a relatively new rescue and as such, is particularly timid and withdrawn. The staff all took their time and were exceedingly patient with her. I highly recommend using this veterinary practi e if you find yourself ( your pet) in need of urgent veterinary assistance. Clearly a two thumbs-up experience. 👍👍😄
