How to Save Money at For Pet's Sake Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am incredibly grateful for what the people at For Pets Sake have done for me. My cat got sick very suddenly due to an at the time unknown allergy, and they kept her alive. We've taken our cats there ever since, and they've always been incredibly helpful and compassionate. I would recommend them to everyone.

I have had several bad experiences at the office and with phone discussions. The first horrid was when I told them my (very old) bunny was suffering and he needed to be put down. Megan told me they could see him in a week. Sure, makes sense, NOT! They couldn't throw the ' he is not a patient' line because they did surgery on him about a yr prior. We then had a few bad puppy experiences. The dr who examined our new pups ( just a few weeks old) was oddly disinterested and expressed bias opinions regarding their care. We did start to discuss leaving that office. I believe he was not a regular staff member though. Today, the tiny puppy needed treatment when ikky worms were found.I was flabbergasted by the response. The woman insisted they were never seen at that office and couldn't get treated and offered me a possible appt in a few weeks. It did not even matter that both of the puppies parents were patients. To make matters worse the woman would not give me advice. I was clearly very concerned about the tiny little gal but I got nothing! There is one guy there that is incredible at his job. He is knowledgeable and is genuinely compassionate and caring. He has kept us going there (until today). I have had limited contact with the female dr there, but she was great with my bunny and the reason we started going there. My pups are children to me and they will not be going back.

Best veterinarians and staff around - Dr Bayan and Dr Haring are amazing with their compassion, knowledge and expertise. I started going there a few years ago when one of my dogs had an emergency and they saw him the same day. Then more recently one of my dogs broke his leg and they took such good care of him and now he is running and playing like he never had an injury before. I am thankful to have found such excellent veterinarians with staff that cares and goes above and beyond. The staff takes the time to bond and connect with pets that come in to their office. The drs do the same and explain everything in detail. Cannot say enough good things about this practice. Thank you 😊 so much for everything.

Dr. Haring is a veterinarian that truly cares for your pet and provides excellent medical care. She has cared for all of our pets for the last 5 years. We have an almost 17 year old golden retriever, Holly, that has had several health challenges in the last year. Each time, Dr. Haring has given us a medical plan that has helped Holly maintain a happy, healthy life. Most recently Holly became very ill and we thought we were going to have to say goodbye. Dr. Haring provided medications and guidance that brought our old pup back to health. Dr. Haring genuinely cares for each pet and their family. We feel very fortunate to have her caring for our animals.

I was on vacation in Glens Falls when my dog got sick, I called the office and was able to get an appointment right away. Dr. Haring and her team were so accomidating and friendly. Since we were able to get my dog on medcine early, our vacation could continue as planned. Dr. Haring also gave us wonderful restaurant and hiking recommendations. I would recommed this practice!
