How to Save Money at Low Cost Vet Mobile

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have brought here 3 of my 5 rescued dogs. I have met the vet and the staff working at the Mobile Vet when I brought in my 10.5 yo boy with a tumor on his hip and my 2yr girl which needed an eye inoculation. I am very grateful to have found them. Yes, I have had to wait outside for hours to be seen, but they saved me THOUSANDS of dollars, which I was not going to make during the time that I waited there. The staff was always very informative when a procedure was needed and needed to be scheduled or performed. No, you can't be inside the van with your pet while he/she is in there. It is NOT a regular vets office! They are not friendliest of people as they are there to provide a service and not make friends with you, but they are professional and not rude how other people on the reviews have stated. People who come here leaving a negative review like Jimmy Gonzalez and Casandra Vargas (amongst others below), please, have you ever considered that the condition of your pet was your own fault in the first place? Casandra Vargas, if you were a responsible dog mom, you would have made sure to bring an umbrella or some sort of shade for your dog as well as iced water or just water PERIOD. YOU were not a responsible pet owner and that is not the vets fault. Take some accountability! Another thing, when you go there or book their services ahead of time on the app, you are doing so with full knowledge that this is a LOW COST VETERINARIAN service in a VAN, how do you think they can afford to keep their prices low? Don't go there expecting 5 star environment, greeting or waiting time. The vets/techs are in that van ALL day seeing sick dogs and cats and doing everything they can to help YOU. If you want someone to come out and greet you with a great big smile on their face, then go to a regular vets office where they charge you for that smile. The people providing these services not only have to deal with sick dogs and cats but also people, sick people; have some patience and think and look around before complaining and if you don't like it then go else where.. and pay full prices. STOP YOUR WHINING.

Cash over Cat: My fiancee went to low cost vet on an appointment scheduled yesterday. I booked the appointment, and the veterinarian told me directly that our cat would be examined and diagnosed with priority over the other pets, based on the severely described symptoms, and give an estimate of $700.00 for the cost of the services. My fiancee arrived 20 minutes before the doors opened, and had to wait outside in 90-degree weather for 90 minutes after the scheduled time. Then my fiancee stated that our cat's condition and symptoms was serious enough to consider euthanizing, and the veterinarian asked for $750.00, $50.00 higher than the estimate, and demanded payment in full upfront without examining our pet. My fiancee left and went to the ASPCA and received all the services for 1/6 the price without the bad attitude. DON'T GET SCAMMED!

This has to be the worst Vet that I’ve ever been to. I don’t even think they license, there’s definitely something fishy going on at that vet clinic. They have people waiting outside in the hot weather around 90 something degrees. I had an English bulldog and he got a panic attack because he got so hot waiting two hours they took my dog in and wouldn’t let me in. After about 2 - 3 minutes they told me I have to take him to the emergency room because he was gonna die of a heat stroke. I know my dog he was just Overheated and I could’ve have cool him off. Which I did in 10 minutes however they wouldn’t want to treat my dog. I waited two hours so my dog still has his ear infection. Avoid this place at all cause . It’s not worth it. The staff there are extremely rude and unprofessional. I’m gonna report them. Hopefully they can shut them down

One of the worst vet clinic. They will charge the amount and said in 3 weeks they will call. Waited for 3 weeks never received call, when I called back they said they were backed up it will take another 4 more weeks. Now it almost 4 months they never called. Went to get money refunded, said they will charge another $50 for cancellation. Ok done 2 weeks passed never received the refund. If u see this mobile vet, run away..they r the worst group of people.

Hi everyone, I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for affordable vet med healthcare. Honestly, I was skeptical to go to a van at first, but that attitude of mind was quickly changed. For starters I would highly recommend making an appointment via the app before hand to avoid waiting outside. It is $20 separate from the examination fee. Expect to wait a bit even with an appointment to be called, it isn’t so bad compared to those who wait without an appointment. As I have a healthcare background I understand that sometimes there will be delays. You are expected to fill out some paperwork, on the top write your appt time so staff can know. Second, the staff here are nice. And they will answer all of your questions. No matter how dumb you think they’d be. Third, prices here are the best. I had been looking for an affordable place to bring my doggie (yorkie) for surgery. Surgery is done at a different location in fresh meadows. (Another van) Of course don’t expect to pay 300-500 for major surgery.. it’s surgery… my senior doggie needed a perineal hernia repair. And compared to other vets around the neighborhood it was a price that could not be beat. I had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Garo, he was very mindful and sweet and told me how I should administer my doggies medication. Apart from that he mentioned I am able to text him with any concerns I may have and to follow up with the removal of my doggies stitches. I am honestly grateful that this place exists for us neighbors. Everyone who I had talked to was nice and always had a good attitude. I wish everyone here the best. I also saw a few young faces, I hope you guys get into the vet school of your dreams. - a fellow premed student
