How to Save Money at Queens Midway Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Visited to obtain a USDA certificate of health to travel abroad with our pet. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly even when we faced some unexpected hurdles. They made the entire process as seamless as possible considering the time constraints and requirements by law. Charly made the trip without any issues!

My dog was treated horribly here it was a very traumatising experience for her. They completely misjudged her because she is a pitbull and instead of helping us because all she had was a little redness on her paw they caused her to break an entire nail. The only thing i gained from going here was a prescription for nexgard flea protection which I could have gotten anywhere else. The customer service here was HORRIBLE. RUDE INCONSIDERATE EMPLOYEES IN THIS BUSINESS. First of all, a week prior i had called and made an appointment for 10am on a Thursday because I had to go to work after so i made sure i made the appointment early. When i got there on Thursday they told me i did not have an appointment. That was the first red flag they were very unprofessional. Another person came in with a small dog and they immediately attended them first and gave their small dog a lot of affection. They completely ignored and judged my dog because she is a pitbull. My dog is very sweet has never bit anyone in her whole life and these people completely misjudged her just because of her breed. This broke my heart. When they finally called her and took us in the room they tried to put a mouth muzzle on her after I repeatedly said she does not bite. They completely ignored what me THE OWNER OF THE DOG who is also paying for this appointment was saying. The very worst part was that they wanted her to stand on a small metal table for the doctor to look at her. She is a large 79 pound dog!!! She obviously does not fit on that table. They called in 2 other employees so 3 people were trying to force my dog to get up and stand on this metal table where she obviously doesn’t fit and they kept holding her crowding her making her so scared nervous and uncomfortable. She was scared panicking moving not knowing why they are all grabbing her n she broke a nail and started bleeding heavily falling from that stupid small table. These people are disrespectful ignorant and super inconsiderate and unprofessional. After that whole incident that they caused i told the doctor can’t you just look at her on the floor and he said yeah you right. The 2 other assistants were very annoying grabbing and hugging holding my dog when it was not necessary in that small room. YOU DON’T NEED TO GRAB A DOG TIGHT AND PUT THEM ON A HIGH TINY TABLE JUST TO LOOK AT ONE PAW. SHE IS NOT A CAT. Also i said she doesn’t bite. You are supposed to listen to your patients’ owners. You don’t know my dog i do! My dog had the worst and most traumatising experience here. These people only care about small dogs. Very disrespectful and dissapointing. NEVER COMING HERE AGAIN. I’ve attached a picture so you can see how small that table is in comparison to my dog. Could have saved all the trauma and trouble and my dog’s nail if the doctor would have just bent his lazy back and just checked her on the floor without grabbing and crowding her and scaring her the way they did. She is a defenseless animal and this is not how you should be treating a patient. My dog and i left in tears from this place i never thought going here would have been so scary and the employees would be so cruel to us from the moment we walked in for no reason. Will be looking for a better vet clinic for my baby.
