How to Save Money at Animal Medical Hospital of Centereach
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I breed Scottish Terriers and I bring my pups to Animal Medical Hospital for wellness check-ups and vaccinations. Everyone here has been so kind, knowledgeable, and patient. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Dr. Morrison many times over the past two years and she is phenomenal. Her exams are incredibly thorough and she just has such a peaceful and calming disposition, which is just what a breeder needs when she has to ensure that little lives are healthy and well. I’m so thankful to her and to all the others who have made my breeding journey that much more enjoyable.

Took my chicken here for vent prolapse. I was grateful I was able to be seen on such short notice. The vet and assistants were all very nice and helpful. I was very happy they were able to treat my chicken as not many vets take chickens.

These young ladies were extremely professional and compassionate in our time of need for our beloved King. They were able to immediately schedule an appointment. And they are truly animal lovers to the heart. Money doesn't drive this group. There prices are very low and you can tell they do this work for the pets and there owners. Highly recommend. And God bless. Sincerely thanks to everyone that works here.

This is not a true 5 star review but, I know that 5 stars come up first and on their website and google reviews. 1 stars are not shown unless you click on them and dig through the site. I want everyone to know the awful experience I had with this awful facility. I would not recommend this place to anyone. My hamster was perfectly fine before his wellness visit. When I left he was dead. Pure negligence on the vet’s part. The vet dropped my hamster during the visit. He endured a 3 + foot drop. No remorse was shown nor care. My poor baby was left dead in his cage by the end of the visit. The way the vet handled this whole situation is appalling and even crazier is there are false statements within the medical notes regarding my hamsters well-being. He suffered and DID not deserve to pass the way he did. Very irresponsible and unintelligible vet. Also I tried calling and speaking with the owner to make a complaint who is apparently “unavailable” to speak with me for over a week. What kind of facility is this? Not one I will ever recommend or ever send another one of my beloved pets to. So, if you want your pet to be improperly handled and neglected, especially exotic, I would suggest going elsewhere. Due to this kill, not treatment facility, my poor hammy is no longer enjoying his healthy life he was supposed to be enjoying. And my beloved furry best friend is gone forever.

When we put our 16 year old Doxie down we were beside ourselves… But the group here made us so comfortable. They gave us a private room to spend our last moments together and took the time to explain everything to my 12 year old and 7 year old. Dr. Morrison even gave my daughter a book about dogs going to heaven. The care and compassion they showed really helped us through a difficult time. Would definitely recommend to anyone who cares about their pets.
