How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The entire visit was such a relief! To start the receptionist was so kind and sweet, I had called multiple vets trying to get an emergency visit for my dog, and she was by far the most kind and understanding of my many questions. The vet and all other staff members were so incredibly kind and supportive of my dog and I. We were both nervous and they were reassuring and knowledgeable when explaining the process, tests, and medication. It didn’t seem to be any more expensive than any other vets I’ve been too and the staff and environment was top notch.

Our 12-year-old German Shepherd, Bernard, had an emergency splenectomy. I cannot imagine having done this elsewhere and putting our Bernard in the hands of anybody else other than the staff at VEG Brooklyn on Ralph ave. They were thorough from the very beginning, answered every single one of our questions, and most importantly they were loving and compassionate during every step of the way from the moment we walked in until we left the clinic 38 hours later. They made sure we were as comfortable as possible during our stay. Our boy loved them all and they loved him back. They hugged him and kissed him and hand fed him, and talked to him every chance they got, and being the center of attention is Bernard's favorite thing on earth. No wonder he loved them! They made a nightmare of a situation feel lighter for us and for Bernard. Thank you to everyone at VEG. We will NEVER forget them and will forever be indebted to them for giving Bernard his health back! He loves you all!

Took my 9 month pomeranian due to limping and returning home from a daily evening walk. The receptionist was very kind took our information and took us straight in. Dr. Kate Sullenberger was super gentle and made my baby stop limping and back to her usual self. The team that night was so friendly and polite that they made sure you were comfortable waiting they provided water, coffee, or a snack. Seeing how they take care of other animals was amazing you felt safe. You saw how a great team of amazing individuals worked together.

Hi, I don’t normally write reviews but this place truly deserves one. Unfortunately there is not a happy ending my boyfriend and I brought our senior chocolate lab in for an emergency visit, he was very sick and we were panicking we did not want him to suffer I called multiple vets explaining that I was sure our pup was passing and needed immediate assistance— he had been unwell for a little while but had rapidly declined overnight. Not a single one had availability one vet even telling us we could bring him the next day which was not an option. We brought our baby boy in and they greeted us at our car door with a gurney to get him inside they brought him straight in and assisted him immediately. They were honest and straight forward about our dog’s condition and helped him stabilize so we could say goodbye. They did not rush us to make decisions they gave us a private room to cry and say our goodbyes to my boyfriend’s dear childhood dog and walked us through the entire process- as awful as the situation itself was; their bedside manner was impeccable! It is so impossible to find a vet that feels like they care about your pet regardless of money but it truly feels like they value every animal that walks in this door. A huge thank you to Dr.Feeley (apologies if I misspelled) he was extremely honest and caring and helped us make the best decisions for our pup. The entire staff down to the receptionists were amazing and so kind and caring and even drew a picture of our baby on a condolence card it was so overwhelmingly sweet I wish it could have ended on better terms but honestly you guys made this process a lot more bearable than it would have been otherwise. If your pet is ever experiencing an emergency I highly recommend this amazing place. Thank you so much for treating Rock with the dignity, love, and care he deserved and making sure he was comfortable and stable so we could say our goodbyes and ease his suffering in his final moments we will never ever forget it. Rest In Peace Rock we love you so much and will miss you eternally.
