How to Save Money at Prospect Park Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We had a great first experience with my new puppy Juno. No complaints. Front desk staff were very attentive, polite, and accommodating to us to get him a sooner appointment due to having an ear infection. Doctors were knowledgeable, patient, affectionate and gentle with my puppy. They also helped him to feel as comfortable as possible through his first time getting a thorough cleaning of his ears and check up. He left there being his normal self, happy and energetic with take home treatment. I appreciate the service we received.

These incredible vets took care of our cats for five straight years, and they are legitimately the best vets I've ever had in ten years of cat ownership. They're knowledgeable, caring, and diligent; they give you exactly the info you need without trying to sell you on expensive treatments just for the sake of them (something I definitely cannot say for every vet!!) and most importantly they just all care so, so much about the animals in their care. I'm actually deeply sad to be moving away from them, and they're going to be the gold standard of vet care for me going forward. Consistent, reliable, caring–y'all are just the best!

Prospect Park Animal Clinic is a wonderful practice! We appreciated that they intervened effectively but also did not over-treat. We cannot recommend them highly enough.

Coming back from vacation my regular vet close to home wouldn’t accommodate my 16 year old dog who wasn’t eating and had digestive issues. She had been to see Nick Silverman DVM once before and I’d had a great experience then. So while they were also booked up, the vet called me back and worked my dog in. He was very responsive, attentive and sincere. Another (female) vet from the office (also very knowledgeable) followed up with my dog’s blood test results and the all the staff including the vet techs were friendly and on top of everything. They run a great caring family practice, something that’s hard to find these days in NYC. Advice and remedy’s have been right on - not too much or too little. Highly recommend.

We’ve been bouncing between different vet chains in the area since we rescued our 13 year old Yorkie in 2020. I was becoming disillusioned as Bond Vet and Animal Kind were more focused on charging your card than counseling or discussing care; they both suggested expensive diagnostics that totally distracted from the main issue our dog had: his behavior changed likely due to Dementia—CCD. When our pup stopped eating, I called PPAC. The receptionist thoughtfully listened to my concerns and she was able to squeeze us in an appointment despite their overbooked schedule. Dr. N Silverman had exceptional bedside manner and let us be present in the room during the entire exam and eval—which the other vets never allowed since 2020. I am a medical professional myself and he answered all my questions in a professional and thorough manner offering sensible options and reasonable alternatives. He also took the time to discuss end of life care anticipating when the time may come… Overall, I appreciated the small business attentiveness and rational-humane approach that is so hard to find these days. We will not go anywhere else in the future.
