How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Spent 22 minutes waiting on hold without ever speaking to a human. Cant get a hold of someone over the phone or online. I’ve loved Banfield in Seattle but after this experience, I’m canceling. My pet is already injured, I can’t wait 22 minutes to see if they can care for him. Banfield, I already reached out to Banfield Cares after waiting 15 minutes but I’m done with my OWP after this.

Horrible experience with this location. You can never book appt online and getting through on the phone is like an act of congress! Once you’re there the veterinarian team is so busy due to them accepting +2x the amount of clients they’re built for. The vets do not communicate causing massive issues with pet care. They seem to be most concerned with booking pets for as many in-person visits vs truly caring for the pet needs. After being a loyal Banfield member for 10 years in multiple locations I am cancelling both our pet wellness plans and migrating to a competent practice.

Horrible experience at Banfield Brooklyn location. They have the terrible practice of doing tests on your pet you did not request and charge you for it. I took my pet to do a tooth cleaning and they did urine analyses on her I did not requested or approved. This is the third time they have done this. They are constantly trying to give her vaccines I did not request or approve of I'm done with them...sick and tire or their treatment It is clear when they see a new client they start planning how they are going to take as much money as they can from them Money hungry thieves! Im done with you!

Been coming to the Atlantic Avenue location since 2012 and have been a wellness customer longer. This review is specifically about Atlantic Avenue. 4 of my dogs always on the wellness plans. I’ve seen this place go from good to floating in the toilet. Forget about leaving a message as they DO NOT call back. Left two messages for an appointment for a vaccine which my pup was covered. I spent $95 on 6/2/2023 at another vet my dog is going into boarding. When I called Banfield to tell them to add my dog’s vaccine I was shocked someone picked up right away. She then gave me an attitude when I said I never got a call back after 2 messages telling me I never left a message. Also my dog’s updated bordatella won’t be added to his record until I present the receipt. $95 for something that was covered! I’m also very on top of my pups care. Noticed the app doesn’t always jive with the office. Grossly understaffed. I even heard a front desk person tell a customer they have to come in to make an appointment (back in March). Impossible to make an appointment on the app for this location. They never pick up the phone and if they do, on hold long enough to eat lunch. I really wish more locations would open. The other options are either SI or Manhattan. Brooklyn needs to get their business sorted. Used to be cool not anymore.

Despite being a Banfield Wellness Plan member there for 6+ years since the NYC branch closed, I have rarely been able to make an appointment there. I’ve been forced to drive hours or take time out of my vacation to actually take advantage of this wellness plan. Their calendar always says full online and you must call to make an appointment. When calling I’m out on hold for 1 hour or more before I finally give up. I’ve sometimes called up to 15 times a day over a week and have never been able to actually speak to someone. Today alone I’ve called that many times already just to get a follow up for a Banfield appointment I had today all the way in Texas. This isn’t a new situation. This has been the entire time I’ve been at this branch. I’ve maybe been able to get through 5% of the times I would actually like to make an appointment. I have reached out to the banfieldcares email as suggested in other reviews but of course, no response.
