How to Save Money at Comforting Care Veterinary Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Walling helped us say goodbye to our sweet golden Dexter this weekend. Her empathy, compassion and calm demeanor made a hard day a little bit easier. Dr. Walling sat with us while we cuddled and loved on our boy and shared memories of him. We are forever grateful that Dr. Walling was able to help Dexter cross the rainbow bridge. We couldn’t recommend her services more. Additionally, her assistant Jessica is equally wonderful and was our first point of contact. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts ♥️

Our family cannot thank Comforting Care Veterinary Services enough for everything they did to help us say goodbye to our beloved Audrey. When she stopped responding to cancer treatment, the decline was so quick. She showed us it was the right day to say goodbye, and Comforting Care went out of their way to make it happen that day, so she would no longer be in pain. Jessica talked us through everything with so much compassion and gave us space and made options appear out of thin air. We are so grateful. She was there for us from the first phone call through picking up Audrey's ashes. Dr. Walling's calming presence helped Audrey calm down, even though she was normally so wary of strangers. Dr. Walling gave us time and space and advice throughout the process, and let Audrey lead. We would recommend Comforting Care to anyone. Thank you for gift of making making Audrey's goodbye full of love and comfort at home.

Dr. Walling is truly an angel. She helped through a very difficult time. My Garrison did so well for 2 years with osetosarcoma until the last few weeks of his life. We tried alternative treatments which worked for awhile. He rallied all the time so we had many "false alarms". Dr. Walling was a voice of reason during a very hard period. Numerous times she told me he is ok when I had given up hope. It was reassuring that she was objective and only a phone call away. No matter what I didn't want him to suffer. When the time, came she was patient, kind and compassionate. She helped me help Garrison pass to the rainbow bridge without suffering. In the end he died in my arms snoring and at peace. I am eternally grateful for having Dr. Walling by my side and don't know how I would have managed without her. As sad as it is, I highly recommend her. Thank you for listening to my story.

The photo attached here is our Baxter. It is from a happier time, when he was young and full of life. Unfortunately, they don't stay this way. Baxter grew old and tired loving Mary (my wife) and me. He continued to struggle on, trying to make us happy. But while he was always successful of putting a smile on our face and love in our hearts, it came at a price for him. With his health waning, with his obvious pain, and with him getting slower and more disinterested with each passing day, we felt that the time had come for us to give him a final gift of love by helping him on his journey. I contacted Dr. Walling, and she was very prompt at responding. She took the time to listen to Baxter's story. She asked thoughtful questions to help guide me through the decision process. She was compassionate, understanding, and oh so obviously knowledgeable and professional. It felt like a natural fit for us. She put us at peace with our decision. And she was available and accommodating to our needs. We were able to schedule her visit to our home such that we were able to give Baxter the kind of send-off that a senior dog deserves after a lifetime of love for his people. He had ice cream, and chicken, and treats, and even chocolate, as much as he wanted. He couldn't believe his good fortune. He loved his walks so much that we got up early and took him for one last trip to one of his favorite spots. When Dr. Walling came in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, she was very professional and thoughtful in her preparation and execution of basic safety procedures. We had to do everything outside. We all wore masks and stayed the appropriate distance apart. We felt safe. And we felt cared for, both in terms of our physical and our emotional needs. Doing this outside was great. It might have been our choice anyway, even if not for the COVID-19 situation. He loved that back yard. It was his domain. It was full of his toys and his memories. And it was full of our memories of so many happy times with him. It was a peaceful, comfortable place, where he could be at ease and we could be at peace with giving him the rest and relief that he deserved. Dr. Walling explained the whole process to us, and it played out exactly as she said it would. Her experience and expertise made it a very humane experience for all of us. Baxter just went to sleep, in total peace. It was a beautiful thing for him, even if profoundly sad for us. Through it all, Dr. Walling took care to address all the needs that were presented, both Baxter's and ours. We cannot overstate how wonderful she was, and how much we are happy that she was there. When it was done, she took Baxter away. We were very impressed with the care and respect she showed for his body and our feelings. She explained everything to us with regards to the work she does facilitating the cremation and the return of his ashes to us. She guided us through picking the options that were right for us from a number that are available. And she followed up with us afterward to see how we were doing , to recommend grief counseling, etc. As person, Dr. Walling must be really special to do what she does. And in terms of the business, Mary and I were more than satisfied. Not only did everything exceed our expectations, but we felt the cost was extremely reasonable. Baxter has had lots of health problems over the years. And even with a small extra fee for doing this on a Saturday, the total cost of the procedure and the final arrangements was in line with what we were accustomed to spending on a number of our vet visits. In other words, Dr. Walling's service was a tremendous value. Baxter was the best dog ever. He was one of the great loves of our lifetime. And he left such a void in our hearts and our home when he departed. But we were happy to be able to give that final gift of love and devotion to him. And we were very happy that we found Dr. Walling.
