How to Save Money at Animal Ark Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They were very compassionate and their support was amazing. We had to say goodbye to our cat Arlo there, but, the staff was understanding and amazing.

They always take the BEST care of my animals. I've had many different animals over the past decade and they were amazing with every one of them! The staff is amazing and Dr Spindel is wonderful! I have a lot of respect for him. He gives you ALL of the options for your pet's situation. He will be honest and tell you what he would do personally if it was his pet!

Dr. S was my dog and kittens vet until we moved out of state. He was very kind, knowledgeable, and let us know what each of the shots were for (getting my pups rabies re-upped, and getting our new kitten her first/second set of shots). The vet staff were so friendly and welcoming. I wish we could have boxed them all up and taken them with us when we moved. Compassionate, friendly and knowledgeable people, definitely the one you want of your fur child's side!

I had gone to this vet for a few years. They had me in for an emergency, and I was very pleased with how my pet's crisis was handled. However, each visit since I have gotten more and more upset with them. 1. They issued prednisone at a tech appointment without explaining what it was or that it needed to be weaned off and not stopped abruptly. They never followed up to see whether symptoms improved. 2. I was in for an annual exam and was told the doctor would be right in. Half an hour later, I popped my head out to see what was going on, and it turns out that there was an emergency. Although I was sitting in a room with 2 terrified cats, I did see a golden retriever come in and out while I was waiting. There was just no communication about what was going on. Had I known that it would be an hour and a half, I would have rescheduled and left for the sake of my cats' peace of mind. 3. Final strike - a medication was issued for my cat that was not safe for him to take with his chronic condition, which he had been hospitalized for at this vet. Again, there was no explanation of what the medication was when I picked it up. I looked up what it was because he was frothing at the mouth when I gave it, and one of the first things I was was a warning that it was contraindicated for him. They also refused to refund me for the medicine because I gave him one, so I essentially paid money for the privilege of throwing out a medical that could kill my cat. In fact, he did have a several week flareup of his disease following that pill. Again, nobody followed up on this visit. Listen, I like Dr. Spindel. He's a nice guy. But I feel like this business has gotten too big for itself and can't give the quality care it used to. I no longer trust that my animals will be given safe, appropriate care. Fortunately, I have moved and found a new vet.

This was an amazing vets office!! I had to come here for the first time ever for an emergency visit for my daughter's ferret. The vet looked at him in depth and came and told me that he thinks he needs a blood transfusion, possibly more then one, but that he doesn't have ferret blood but they could transfer me over to Cornell if that's what I wanted, or he could go through every single thing to make sure thats what he needed if that's what I wanted to do, or to have him euthanized. We ultimately decided to have him euthanized, with very heavy hearts. They allowed me to stay with him while he was doing it, they snipped off some of his fur at my request. They also gave me these beautiful momentos with his paw prints in it. They were even able to give me 3 of them free of cost which was an amazing thing for my children to have! The urn we recieved him back in is also beautiful and he had come back in exactly a week which was much faster then I thought! The vet and all his vet techs were very sympathetic, kind and caring through the whole thing from the moment I made the phone call to when I went to pick him up! I am very very grateful to that vet and his technicians! I will most definitely be back again! Thank you to everyone that works here!!
