How to Save Money at Almond Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to switch vets recently. I liked the one I had but the hours and payment method were both becoming inconvenient. So I was recommended to try Dr. Hover. I was not disappointed. My former vets receptionist smiled when I mentioned where he was going as if to say, "you might be leaving us but you're still in good hands there." They weren't wrong... Twice Dr. Hover has taken care of my 10 year old beagle Buddy Bear who left the office healthier and more puppy like, this is a great vet and he catches things quickly before they turn into problems! Very happy! ❤️ They also have late hours, Saturday hours and take debit cards (all things I was looking for besides good care for my dog)

Almond vet and Dr Hoover were our vet for 15 years. At the end of July our lab had a tooth extracted. They called to say things went fine. I called back in.the afternoon to check on him. There was no answer, so I left a message requesting a call back. Which did not happen. A week later there was something seriously wrong with my dog. We called every day for 3 days. Amber was so rude to.us and basically pushed us off. 3 days later his state was so poor that I thought he had to be put down. I called at 8 am on Saturday when they opened. Amber again pushed us off and told us we now had to seek an emergency service. 2 days later our dog passed away. Our vet of 15 years would not help us when we needed them most. It's been so devastating to us to go through this when all we were doing was taking our sweet baby in for a tooth removal.. so rude, uncaring and dismissive.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT bring your pets here. Carol is dishonest, rude, and presumptuous. Sandy & Jim arent around as much, if at all. There are younger folk doing the work, and Carol runs the office. 3 nights ago, my cat suffered a severe accident and had extreme trauma to her back side and abdomen. The following morning at 9:30 am I brought her in, and I was promised that the dr. wouls see her immediately and I would be notified that day. They did not notify me, and the following day I called at 10:40 am to check up, and they had JUST THEN got started in examining her. An hr later, they called to say she 'has urinary tract infection' and stated that as cause of her bleeding from her urethra. Carol ignired my explanation of the accident and continued to demand it was a urinary infection. Needless to say, I took my cat immediately to another vet, and within 3 hrs that dr. did XRays, bloodwork, and other examinations. He discovered damage to her liver, kidneys, lungs, and trachea. He perscribed treatment, and bec the damage is minimal, sent her home. No urinary infection, there was partial blood infection from slight sepsis as result of kidney damage. Almond Vet used to be kind and reliable. As you can see, they ARE NOT ANYMORE. They literally endangered the life of my cat by ignoring her for 25 hrs and then misdiagnosing her. If she had fullblown sepsis, she would have died today as a result of this office's negligence. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE
