How to Save Money at PetMedic Albany - Urgent Care Vet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Happy to have an alternative to the emergency vet on the weekends! My German shepherd is in his terrible twos and somehow broke a dew claw last weekend, and instead of waiting, taking time off from work (and potentially letting it get worse, or torn) for a vet appointment on Monday, these guys were able to get us in within about an hour of calling. We got there at the appointment time they set, and were in and out in less than an hour AND for a reasonable cost. They ALSO texted a few days after to follow up and see how he was feeling. 10/10, had a great experience and all of the staff we encountered were wonderful.

This was a top notch experience for an urgent visit for my cat. The vet for our visit was very kind and super gentle especially with my anxious fur baby. We had a thorough discussion regarding possible treatments for a cold. This is the first experience we’ve had at a vet where they listened without any pretense or attitude. They also didn’t push drugs or antibiotics which feels like a rare experience. The entire team was great from beginning to end and made my cat comfortable enough where she seemed to relax enough to be examined. They even checked in the next day via text to see how she was feeling. The building is also very clean and looks really great after being renovated/restored. The cost of the exam was $156, well within normal range you would pay at any other vet. Making an appointment was pretty seamless with their booking and check in systems being quick and simple. Recommend going here for quality urgent care for anyone’s pet.

I am so excited that this facility opened in the Albany area. It is a perfect in-between when your dog needs to see a vet but it doesn’t rise to the level of the ER. I recently brought my dog here for a paw injury and could not have been more satisfied with the experience. I was able to prebook an appointment online, and when we arrived we were seen in a timely manner. Everyone was very nice and took time to discuss my dog’s medical history, as well as call my vet to ask if a certain test had been previously done. The visit, while expensive, was less than what I would have paid at the ER and was fairly priced comparable to other veterinary care my dogs have received. I’d go back here again (though I hope I don’t have reason to!)

I highly recommend PetMedic. Their staff is incredibly caring and kind. Dr. Diana took care of our 15 year old dog, and she was so good with him, it was the first time I witnessed my dog not being terrified at the vet. She treated his injury and sent him home healthy as always. If you're looking for an urgent care that actually cares about your pet, this place is it. Price was reasonable. Shoutout to Dr. Diana, Paige (technician) and Shayna (reception / check in) for being amazing human beings who really cared and helped my dog out.

I am so thankful for this group of veterinary professionals. I had such a scare last night… I noticed my Great Pyrenees had a dew claw that poked his pad. He is so sensitive and defensive about his nails but when I tell you… he was calm the whole time. The staff really has a real calming energy and in emergent situations… I cannot thank them enough for putting Napoleon and I at ease. I cannot recommend PetMedic enough! They not only addressed the concern I brought him for but identified a non emergent concern I had been trying to remedy at home … NoPo is forever grateful. I am forever grateful and I fully plan on utilizing PetMedic for anything NoPo needs. You cannot put a price tag on the professionalism and care the whole staff exhibited towards my best friend.
