How to Save Money at Fairgrounds Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat Blue Blue was a patient at fairgrounds animal Hospital. They always treated us with respect. My cat was 17 years old. He had lived a great life. When it came time to send him over the rainbow 🌈 bridge fairgrounds animal Hospital’s staff was so amazing. The veterinary assistant was kind, gentle and informative. He made the process a little bit easier on us. With being such a hard process of saying goodbye to our little family member blue blue. I’m so grateful that they made us feel like they cared for our cat as much as we did. They made us comfortable and let us know that we had as much time as we wanted to say goodbye. So if you’re looking for a vet that cares, I highly recommend fairgrounds animal Hospital.

I recently took my cat, Violet Beauregard, to Fairgrounds Animal Hospital and can't say enough about how great they are! I have been going to Fairgrounds Animal Hospital with my pets for over 20 years now. Dr. Johnson has been with me through the life and death of three pets, Rudy, Sasha & Max. Dr. Johnson is such a gentle soul and you can tell that he really cares about the animals that he treats. I have also had great experiences with Dr. Andrus. I highly recommend both Dr. Johnson & Andrus. The staff is very friendly and professional.

Did not receive affirmation that I had been checked in. An older woman asked who I or Kayla was but never said "Great, I will check you in now". Having said that, it did look like the receptionist was having a bad day. The reception area was excessively noisy when I got in but that is pretty much beyond Fairground's control. My dog is coming back for sedated x-rays as well as a senior blood panel. I should have been offered the blood draw while I was there so the test results would have been back by the time of her surgery. If the blood panel has remarkable results (God forbid), it might impact if the x-rays should be done. Granted being offered the blood draw might have been overload. Appreciate the time and patience of both the tech and doctor. Thank you. Would give them 9 or 10 scores. My dog's activities of daily life is being impacted by her hind quarters. Not good that it took two weeks to get an appointment for the intake an appointment and then another two weeks (was offered ten days but that didn't work with my schedule) for x-rays. Can only hope that the delay isn't causing her further damage. Realize that procedures are feast or famine so hard to allocate resources to. If she does need surgery, how long is that going to take to schedule? Despite having four dogs in the reception area, I was shown to the room only eight minutes after my appointment. That impressed me as I was expecting a longer wait for a 3:30 appointment. Dislike the scheduling procedure in that I can't go to a calendar and pick the time. Rather an email exchange has to occur.

Everyone who works here has been so kind and caring! They were able to squeeze me in when I came in on the wrong appointment date. And thank goodness they were able to, because that saved my cat’s life. They also have done tons of follow up and helped me find all the right stuff for my cat.

Dr. Krebs is very awesome. She is very kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and just generally great to talk to. My french bulldog DeVito was having a hard time healing from two consecutive eye ulcers and she really listened to the care and experiences at home he was having. Even though he had difficulty healing (not her fault) she was able to switch some treatment that was able to better help him and was able to give advice and a referral to an ophthalmologist in the event we were unable to resolve his problems there. DeVito although nervous, seemed to really love her as well. I highly recommend Dr. Krebs. The receptionists are all a pleasure to chat with too. Thank you, everyone! Love, DeVito and Courtney
