How to Save Money at Red Rock Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had the best experience with Dr Wolinski. So glad we found her!! We had been going to another vet for 2 years, where our cat had been seen 8 times since August, and we spent over $2k on him. We called Friday AM to get him in to see the vet, he hadn’t eaten in over 3 days and was very weak. The vet refused to see him until Monday and wouldn’t even call me to talk about it, provide options or a referral. We ended up at Red Rock Animal hospital with Dr Wolinski. She was amazing! She read through all of his prior records and blood test results before coming in to the room. She spent lots of time listening to our concerns, thoroughly examined him, took X-rays and gave him fluid and meds. He started eating Fri night. She is amazing and truly cares - we highly recommend her!

We had 2 of our hounds in for a dental and a growth removal on our senior. Dr. Dominguez called and discussed everything on each of the girls. The price was well below the estimate and they had more to do then the original quote. My senior hound has always been apprehensive of vets...but not here...they ran in and left me like a happy kindergartener on the second day of school. Watching Dr. Dominguez with my girls and how professional the staff was...as long as we are in this area....Red Rock Animal Hospital is our vets. By the way, we live in Pahrump and have tried vets from here to Las Vegas...these guys are the best.

I have been taking my dog to this Vet for a few years. Today my dog is sick and we called Red Rock who was treating him for a digestive issue. They are too busy today to help an existing patient and refused to make time. Time to find another Vet who cares.

First time here. Was a little skeptical because of the reviews but I found out my Shibas former doctor also works here now. Huge shoutout to Dr. Redding, Kaitlynn and Alex for taking care of my Shiba baby! Great service, Alex, Dr. Redding and Kaitlynn made us feel welcomed and ensured we had a good first experience. Will definitely be bringing my puppy back here!

Fair pricing, easy to schedule emergency visit, and goes above and beyond to give you important results. My shepsky was vomiting blood for two days. We tried to get a same day appointment with her regular veterinarian at another hospital. They found an appointment, however they wanted to charge me $230 for the visit. Thankfully, Red Rock Hospital was available to see my dog. The visit was only $65. My dog is a rescue and has had a rough life pre-adoption. She's normally extremely anxious in new environments. As soon as we walked into Red Rock Hospital, my dog felt at ease. She must have sensed that the medical and admin staff were friendly and gentle. Dr. Fujikawa asked me detailed questions about my dog's condition and history. She was patient and listened well to my concerns. Dr. Fujikawa was the only veterinarian that showed me my dog's X-rays and explained in detail what I was seeing! And she prescribed a diet of chicken and sweet potatoes/rice. She could have easily sold me specialized can food from their hospital and instead opted for home cooked meals. We paid for blood work, X-rays, stool test, pro-biotic, nausea meds, and hydrating pack. Dr. Fujikawa quoted me an additional X-Ray fee in case her report needed additional expert consultation. Thankfully it was not needed and I paid the lower quoted amount. It turned out that my dog made herself I'll from over stimulation from her recent boarding, road trip, and fireworks (my neighbor's launched fireworks for Oktoberfest). It's been several days now and my dog is back to her loud wild self.
