How to Save Money at Grand Montecito Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Lewis and staff took great care of precious baby (now senior) Tito. We have had three dental cleanings here since Tito was adopted and they have all went well. Tito was even running around the house like his normal happy self after his cleaning and extractions. They are very friendly and professional and will work with you if you have a budget for dental cleaning. They patiently answer questions and help you through the entire process. Thank you !!!

This is only for the boarding. I really liked the doctors here but boarding was horrible. We went out of the country. We couldn't take our dog. I was told since they have veterinarians there, if anything goes wrong, my dog would be safe. I really liked that idea. We've never boarded him ever so that reassured me. What was promised: *His nails will be trimmed immediately *They will walk my dog 6 times daily. *They will send me pictures daily *They will give him the 1 bag of goodies daily (brought 8 bags) for the 9 days stay *all the shots will be updated *he will get a bath the last day Everyday, I called because I didn't get any pictures, no updates via email as promised. Everyday, I was told he ate, pooped, doing fine. They will send pictures but were too busy. Finally got photos on the 4th day. Ive never seen my dog look so sad ever. We rushed back to the states. I called them multiple times to let them know we will be picking him a day early so please bath him. I also called 4 hours prior to pick up to let them know we were on our way. We got there. No bath. No nail trimmed. They said they can do it right now but it would take 15 to 20 minutes, depends. We had traveled for over 20 hours to get our dog. We were exhausted. We told them no. I was told there was miscommunication so he didn't get a bath. We also noticed only 1 bag of treat was given out of 8. Our dog was neglected The office manager said they were just too busy due to spring break... its like hearing, Im sorry we couldnt change your baby's diaper for a week because we were too busy, but we can change them now. My dog was neglected. Im very disappointed. No he will not go back. I really don't like writing negative reviews so I waited 3 days to make sure I wasn't over reacting. The first 4 photos were from them. I was told its because he has a sad looking face. Last 2 were taken the day i dropped him off. No sad face there. They had drained all the happiness out of his life

I beg you, this will be a long-term review but please read until the end as it could save your fur baby's life and you from a shattered heart. Dr. Bruce and his staff deserve negative stars. On September 20th, I brought my baby Copper here on an emergency basis. The emergency vet closest to our home wasn't open yet, and my regular vet is 30 minutes away. I had brought another of my dogs here in July and things went well which is the reason I called again asking for help when Copper wasn't able to urinate. We waited for close to 3 hours, for Dr.Bruce to even come in to do the exam. He admitted Copper, and I told the assistant he needed to have a catheter placed. She assured me they would take care of him. After he was admitted, I paid over $2000 for the admission and again told them Copper needed to have a catheter placed. I was again assured he would be taken care of. At close to 10 pm that Friday Dr.Bruce called me, they started Copper on IV fluids and gave him medicine for the vomiting and AGAIN I told them he needed a catheter placed! I am a nurse, so knowing he wasn't able to pee AND they were giving him fluids it would be disastrous. Dr. Bruce told me during the call he saw stones in Copper's bladder as well as some type of foreign matter in his intestines and they would need to do surgery to remove it, but insisted none were present in the urethra and it was what they saw in his GI tract that was making him so sick. I received a call Saturday morning to update me on Copper's condition. I asked if he had peed and was told they would be taking him out soon and would let me know. AGAIN, I begged them to place a catheter in him, and was assured he would be taken care of. I went to visit Copper a few hours later. When he was brought to me, it was very obvious he was declining. He could barely walk, and very sooner after he was brought to the room he vomited a neon yellow clear fluid, then laid down and nothing I did could coax him up. In a panic state I told someone to please send in Dr.Bruce. Copper was dying right before my eyes. Copper had an IV catheter, but no urinary catheter as I had asked SEVERAL times for them to put in him. Dr.Bruce finally came in, and in tears I told him, plainly "he's dying, please help him", and AGAIN begged for a urinary cather to be put in. He said his staff would get the payment for the surgery, and he would get the stones removed. Two hours later a member of his staff called me to get the more than $4000 payment for the surgery. I AGAIN asked if a urinary catheter to be placed. 2 hours after paying for the surgery I receive a call from Dr.Bruce. He starts explaining to be that when they open Copper up to remove that the saw in his GI tract there was a ton of free fluid in his abdomen. When they removed what they saw in the GI tract, it was food, nothing abnormal. When they got to the bladder to remove the stones, they found his bladder has ruptured. His kidneys were overloaded with fluid as oversized also from the fluid build up. He told me Copper's heart stopped prior to the bladder repair surgery, but the were able to bring him back. He completed the bladder repair, but Copper's heart once again stopped while in recover, and yes Copper died. Copper was only 2 years. His death is sole responsibility of Dr.Bruce and his staff. Every plea I made was ignored. Dr. Bruce did refund me the more than $6000 I paid him, and also paid for Copper to be cremated, as he should have which is why 1 star is being generous. Our job as pet parents is to advocate for our babies. When thrse so-called specialists ignore your advocating, this the result. Look elsewhere!!! There are so many other vet's in the area that will do better than this one. Stay as away from this place!

Was in an emergency and had to take my dog in she’s 10 years old. Dr Rickey treated her very nicely and helped the bill was exceedingly high almost $1200. We got it down to around 860. My dog was OK. She needed fluence and was dehydrated and got sick from something she ate. The staff was very nice however a few weeks later when I brought her back and asked if they would trim her toenails, they told me that they needed a record of her shots, which I explained to them she’s 10 years old hasn’t had her shots in three years and I’m not getting her any more shots because she stays at home and shots are a big scam Raby shots once a year. All you’re doing is debilitating your dog and taking life away from it he could veterinarian will notice these people here care about your money, not about your dog. They’re pushing Vaccines. So now I absolutely do not recommend a place that would take almost $900 to treat my dog from me but not trim my dogs toe nails. There are other great vets in town that have been around for many years stay away from the rookies
