How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely thrilled with the care my dog Sarah received at the emergency vet! The doctors and staff were incredibly compassionate and quick to assist us during a stressful time. They took the time to explain everything and made sure Sarah was comfortable. I can’t recommend them highly enough—if you’re an animal lover, you can trust them completely with your pets. A fantastic experience all around!

I have to give a huge thank you for the team at veterinary emergency group! Thank you, Dr. Walton and Dr. Williams and all the team and a special thanks to Chris who helped intake us after our dog attack what a kind, gentle Soul. What an amazing group of people with so much love and compassion. I went to Green Valley animal Hospital first and they were awful. I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. I couldn’t be more blessed and thankful for whole team for helping. Save my boy Charlie! Thank you, thank you thank you and God bless you. 🙏🙏🐶🐾🐾🐾

My adopted big Rottweiler mix managed to get into his sutures from being neutered. I called and they said they could take me and I came in and was amazingly impressed with this extremely functional facility! The staff was amazing, thorough, and empathetic. I worked with Dr. Ramirez, and she exemplified how the staff was, as well. She walked me through the various costing options and they gave me a breakdown. Gave me time to decide by leaving me alone to look it over, which I appreciated. I had the option to stay while the treatment was done, but I had to get to work. Couple hours later they called me And let me know the situation and how he was doing and that he was all done. The checkout was smooth they explained everything extremely well to me, including his medication protocol that he would have to go through for the next week. I was extremely happy that I came here! Not that I would want to return, but just in case if I do, I definitely know where to go and recommend that any of you do too!

The absolute moment we stepped into the doors this morning, the staff came to greet us and check out our girl Packer. They did their best to keep her and us comfy while they did everything they had to do. I hope we don't have another situation where we have to come back with our other cats any time soon but if we did, I know exactly where we will go. I sincerely want to thank every single person we interacted with in the wee hours of this morning there.

When I brought my cat in, they got him to a table immediately and started working on him. I LOVED that I was able to stay with him and see what was going on. The doctor was able to explain what they were doing and why. I hate when other offices take my pet to the back and I have no idea what’s going on. This experience was unlike any other, and I’d recommend VEG to anyone who needs a pet ER. When they offered to let me sleep there with my fur baby, I was blown away! This is by far the best place to take a very sick pet! The whole staff was amazing. They worked very well together and ran like a well oiled machine. I’m extremely impressed!
