How to Save Money at Thrive Pet Healthcare Specialists - Albuquerque

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently had a heartbreaking experience with my 13-year-old chihuahua “Nijja” who was experiencing breathing problems. I rushed her to Thrive Pet Healthcare and I am incredibly grateful for the exceptional care they provided during this difficult time. From the moment we arrived, the staff at Thrive Pet Healthcare showed utmost professionalism and attentiveness. They took immediate action to attend to my fur baby, ensuring that she received the necessary care and attention right away. Their prompt response gave me much-needed reassurance during a very stressful situation. What truly stood out to me was the compassion and empathy demonstrated by the entire team at Thrive Pet Healthcare. They understood the gravity of the situation and took the time to explain everything in a clear and sensitive manner. Despite the devastating outcome, they handled the situation with utmost respect and dignity, allowing my family and me the opportunity to say our final goodbyes to our beloved pet. Throughout this terrible experience, the staff at Thrive Pet Healthcare remained respectful and understanding. They provided emotional support, guiding us through the process and offering comfort during a time of immense grief. Do not take your dogs here! I took my dog in Friday and it was a sudden thing. The doctor told me he needs a pacemaker and that this kind of thing doesn’t just “happen suddenly”. She wanted to take X-rays and come to find out days later at a different vet, he had been poisoned! At thrive They left me in a cold room from 8pm til3am Friday night and then sent my dog back home with me in horrible shape. I am so glad I took my dog to East Mountain Veterinary clinic. They knew what was happening immediately (for less than 80% of the cost at thrive) and are currently trying to save his life!!! Prayers for my baby. They charged me $1287 and they neglected my precious animal. They are transactional and don’t care about animals. It was obvious from the start. I will never forgive myself for taking my baby here and I hope the doctor and staff don’t forgive themselves either. Update. All I received was one voicemail from the manager there. Since then, my dog has passed away and they are well aware. Have they not misdiagnosed my four-year-old dog and done the proper testing they would have known he was poisoned and could have helped me save his life for the $1300 they charged me. Instead, I had to go spend another $1200 somewhere else and that includes cremation. I no longer have my emotional support animal with me. That was my best friend. What a bunch of heartless, unprofessional vets. I am in so much pain without my dog. He was taken from me and my daughters far too early. And these people haven’t tried to correct this at all. I called on Thursday before memorial day but all of the managers were already on vacation. Since then, I have not even received a call back. I guess I need to get a lawyer to help me resolve this. These pets are our kids! SHAME ON THRIVE. Rest in peace my Nipsey boy. I’m sorry so many people I trusted failed you.

I took my female pit bull Dot here because she stopped eating and after a few days of that started vomiting blood!!! Like so many pet owners would say about their babies; she is my best friend. Life has knocked me down a lot since the pandemic started and she keeps me going. She loves everyone and will let you hug her for hours while you’re sick or sad. She follows me everywhere and I just don’t know what I would do without her. A month ago I was laid off with 265 other people and my husband has been the only one working. I do start my new job Monday but of course haven’t been paid yet. So, not only was I panicked because she was very ill I was also worried I wouldn’t be able to afford to save her! I was a craving blubbery mess, but the staff never wavered in their care and concern for me and my dot. They took us back immediately and cared for Dot BEFORE they drained my pockets. I did have to leave her there for a few hours while I got my husband to work and tried to gather funds. When I got back they’d treated her with love, meds, and fluids. Given her an ultrasound and helped me to get the bill down to what I had managed to gather. She needed a $500 x ray to rule out the need for emergency surgery but I couldn’t get that much together. I was heart broken taking her home worried she would make it through the night. A bit after I got home I received a call from the hospital manager to tell me they had secretly done her x rays with no charge and she did NOT have anything stuck! This morning she is becoming more like herself again. And I know without a doubt if it wasn’t for this clinic and the amazing loving staff that works so hard there my Dot wouldn’t be here with me anymore . This is the ONLY emergency clinic I will ever use. They truly care! Thank you to all the amazing staff! You all were kind and never made me feel judged ! We love you guys !

Dr. Copeland and staff. Thank you for saving my beloved fur family member, Fin. His jaw was broken in two places and his cheek bone fractured. You all made sure he was comfortable and cared for. You accepted me, and even nurtured me during one of the hardest nights I've had. Your endless patience and kindness is why your facility is the best vet hospital in NM. I thank you for giving me years with my little man. Fin is one week into healing and is THRIVING. Endless thanks and love. - K & F

Me and my boyfriend came in frantically with our dog who suddenly collapsed and was acting lethargic. Unfortunately he passed but the doctor and tech’s were so understanding of our loss. We where determined to find out what happened to him since his death was so sudden & the vet couldn’t take enough of a look in time before he passed so the doctor offered to take a look free of charge before we send any samples for autopsy out in the lab. Other then that they mentioned we wouldn’t be able to get a paw print from the cremation company since the autopsy will make it so we won’t be able to get a paw print. After hearing my boyfriend’s reaction they decided to get us a paw print and clay print from their own team. It was extremely thoughtful and we will forever be grateful to helping us get answers and also keep memorabilia of our lost family member. Odin ment the world to us and our family and his brother will be missing him dearly, thank you for your general care thrive team.
