How to Save Money at Eclipse Specialty & Emergency Pet Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I work as a veterinary technician in both general practice and shelter medicine, and frequently refer clients to Eclipse as a primary 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care recommendation. Little did I know I would eventually have to follow my own advice for my beloved dog, Maggie! She was diagnosed with a pyometra at my practice and my family had to act quickly -- and Eclipse was my first choice based on my personal experience of hearing secondhand testimonials of satisfied clients and their overall reputation within the industry more generally. I'm so grateful to say that they 100% did not disappoint. The professionalism during the intake and subsequently that of the surgical staff was truly stellar. Dr. Kelly Kraus, our surgeon, gets a special gold star for her compassionate and clear communication. Each member of the team was accessible, knowledgeable, and kind with respect to unpacking treatment protocols, prognosis, or responding to any other inane question I may have had throughout our Emergency & Critical Care journey. Moving forward, when I make emergency recommendations for my clients, I know for sure from my now first-hand experience that Eclipse will remain at the top of my list as a guarantee in providing the quality of care they deserve. Thank you all! (and Maggie thanks you too!)

Thank you to Dr. Krause and the entire team at Eclipse Vet for helping us get our puppy back! Our vet neutered our Bernese Puppy Moose at the beginning of September - complications developed which resulted in a mishandled infection. We decided to bring Moose to Eclipse for their opinion and although we knew his situation was not good, we immediately felt relief with the care and attention he was given at Eclipse. We knew he was in the right place and it made leaving him there overnight for two days much easier. Their communication was exceptional. Moose needed another surgery and 2 more weeks recovery - but finally he is back to his playful and happy self! We are so grateful to Eclipse. We couldn’t recommend them more.

11 days ago on a beautifully mild evening leading up to Labor Day weekend, we took our 3 year old bulldog Bella for a short neighborhood walk that nearly took her life. After heavy panting and not being able to calm herself down, we brought her to Eclipse, where she collapsed at the door. It turns out she suffered extreme heatstroke, being admitted with 109 degree temperature. For 10 excruciating days, Bella was in the ICU, having 2 nights on a ventilator, plasma and platelet transfusions, oxygen therapy, IV everything (meds, catheters) and feeding tube. Had it not been for the incredible critical team of physicians and techs, we would have had a different outcome. There is no question that each person on staff at Eclipse played a role in helping Bella make a recovery. She is now home and has a little more recovery to do but we have our girl back. We are eternally grateful to doctors Davidson, VanHorne, Sande and Himmelgran. Additionally, the love, compassion and breadth of knowledge from techs Jaima, Brittany, Alyssia and Sean helped eased our fears. It goes without saying the entire staff helped us and Bella and we will forever be grateful.

I wanna say thank you to all the Eclipse staff especially Dr. Baez and Nurse Jess. Our Pineapple had wonderful treatments for his Lymphoma in this facility. He had extended his life for 1 year under Dr.Baez’s treatment. All the staff liked him so much. I believe Pineapple was the super star there. Unfortunately, Pineapple was gone at 4:00am on June 23,2023. But, I am glad he didn’t suffer too much in the last week of his life. I really appreciate all the Eclipses staff’s help and support.

I don’t leave many reviews but I had to share my amazing experience at Eclipse. Every single staff member went above and beyond when we brought in our cat Teddy with two injured legs. My fiance and I were so scared and panicked when he got hurt and all the staff from the front desk, to the techs, to the vet were all incredible at making the process efficient and keeping us all calm. They kept us informed at every step and made one of the worst nights of our life much easier to handle. Teddy is recovering so well now thanks to their excellent care and love for animals that really shows. Thank you Eclipse!!
