How to Save Money at TLC Pet Doctor

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Some people are quick to leave a bad review about Dr. Nergrin. But they will not tell you she never turns a patient away. If you walk into her hospital with an emergency, she will treat your pet the best she can with minimum staffing and equipment. They also do not write reviews. Saying she was trying to work right after having major surgery just not to let her clients down. People need to respect her time and schedule their appointments accordingly. Suppose you will not show a simple phone call to cancel is so easy. They also say her staff doesn't answer the phones. How can she if she's helping the doctor? Before you try to tarnish someone's reputation, it doesn't hurt to ask questions, but instead, some of you guys' feelings get hurt because YOUR pet wasn’t seen promptly, and you want to write a bad review. It is funny that you guys still go to her practice. If any of my dogs are sick or are not eating whatever, I will take them to the emergency vet. But some of you do not have common sense. She’s damn near a one-person team, and you folks think she’s supposed to be superwoman. Lastly, she doesn't make you get unnecessary things for your pet like most vets. Have the day you all deserve!

My experience with Dr. Negrin has been phenomenal. Her passion for her work is evident, and I truly appreciate the care she provides. However, I did encounter an issue with one of the receptionists who was a little rude and made an inappropriate joke that made me extremely uncomfortable. I believe it would be beneficial if the office addressed this behavior to ensure that all patients feel respected and valued.

I took my dog here for an emergency and this was the only place (and I called 15 places) that would see here same day on such short notice. And thank goodness the vet there could see me, or else my dog may have never regained full mobility. The vet was super kind and explained what she was doing and why every step of the way. She didn't do any unnecessary procedures that rack your bill up. The whole visit cost less than the fee one place was trying to charge me just to be seen same day. I will definitely be taking my dog back here. It's so refreshing to find a vet who actually loves what she does and cares about your pet. And now my pet is back to normal!

I had gotten one of my male cats, Mitty fixed here. We dropped him off at 9am and thought it would take all day long so we left, but they called me at 9:30am to come pick him up nd I was there by 10am to get him. They were very fast and he's had no problems or complications from the process. We also are low income and they have a program for ppl in our situation to get him fixed for only $10. They also gave him his distemperment shot. If this place wasn't so far away id make TLC his permanent veterinarian. Thank you everyone there who helped me and Mitty that day.!!

*Service is good, but getting answers on the phone is very hard, is like they don't want to discuss these type of stuff if not in person, when in person the Dr takes the time to explain stuff to you *They have also taken time to serve my pet even when being late or having no appointment (emergencies only), which I appreciate as this can harden running a business and they can refuse. *No English? No service.
