How to Save Money at Progressive Veterinary Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words cannot even begin to express my gratitude towards Progressive Animal Hospital. I was a new patient and called them because our normal vet who we've been a patient of theirs since day one, refused to see my dog who needed to be seen right away. I frantically called Progressive vet who had never even met me or my dog and they made arrangements for me to bring right away. From the second I walked in, I was greeted by some of the most wonderful people I have ever met. Dr. Gerhard is truly an earth angel. Her compassion and love for my dog who she had just met was anything I have ever experienced at any doctor's office. Dr. Gerhard treated my dog, Bunny like she was her own. She was incredibly gentle with my old fragile girl who was in Congestive Heart and kidney Failure. Dr. Gerhard did everything she possibly could to save my baby and ultimately allowed my family and I to have a few extra days with her. Dr. G explained everything to me in the most gentle, easy to understand way which helped me to process the severity of the situation at a time where I struggled to think straight. When I had to make the tough decision to euthanize I called up Progressive Hospital to ask for another recommendation on vets that do in home euthanasia secretly praying and hoping that Dr. G would be able to do it. I even said to my mom, "if I could pick anyone to do this, it would be Emily Gerhard," and I literally just met her 24 hours prior. Dr. G told me she would speak to her manager about possibly coming to do it for us and she called back shortly later and said she could do it. Hearing this brought me to tears because I knew my baby would be in the best hands. Not only did Dr. G come but she came with the sweetest card where everyone at the office wrote me the sweetest notes and an ornament that I will love and cherish for ever. I am just amazed at the kindness, compassion and empathy that Dr. Gerhard, Kerry, Anthony, Fernanda, and Gwyn has given to me and my beloved girl, Bunny and I can not express how thankful I am that my sweet dog and I were given the most amazing humans to us at an immensely challenging time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to Dr. Gerhard, the vet tech that initially brought us back who was so kind, caring and helpful and everyone else at Progressive. Sincerely, Kristy Cooper (a new patient of yours forever)

This place is amazing. After a bad visit to a pet ER my cat was still sick. I called Progressive and Gwenn was super sweet and understanding about my concerns for my cat and got us in right away. Every single step of the way was explained in way I could understand. The vet tech Carrie was so gentle and caring and Dr T was amazing. They were in constant communication with us. Explained everything by using the actual x rays and toxology reports, so we could understand it. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Left us Feeling a lot better about my cat's health. And even sent treats and toys home for our other cats. Thank you so very much for all you did.

Dr. T and the staff are a patient and caring team. They have bent over backwards to take care of my reactive puppers and I truly feel that he is in good hands with them. An added plus is the facility is clean and inviting. You have my thanks!

The office is wonderful at practicing/recommending excellent medical care for my dog - as if he were human! And they take whatever amount of time is necessary to care for my dog. All of this is so much appreciated!
