How to Save Money at MountainView Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you mountainview for 12 years of love to my baby tequila . I can’t say enough good things or thank every single person enough for the love she felt and care she received throughout her life. Since day one as a puppy dr. Boggier saw her and loved her til her last day. The days are hard without her but the love she received I’ll always remember. Thank you Dr. Schneider for the love and amazing care for both Jill and Jenny everything you did for them increased their lives tremendously. Losing Jill in March was hard then even harder losing Jenny and tequila not even 24 hours apart. Jenny and tequila grew up together as siblings from babies and they went together as sisters they couldn’t handle being apart from each other :( Thank you to Dr. boggier, Dr. Schneider, Lauren, Danielle, abrille, Nicole, Brianna, Lisa, Jessie, Shannon, and every single person who touched the heart of tequila. Thanks to a lot of love and amazing care from you we were gifted with 8 extra months of love and memories after her cancer diagnosis .All I had to say was tiki were going to see your favorite girls at the vet and her ears perked up and she danced around waiting to go. Tequila was the biggest part of my heart and I’m forever thankful she got to experience such love from her vet.

When you love your pet so much you are willing to drive an hour to see a Vet you know you can trust. My old vet washed their hands of my two and a half year old Lola and said there is not much left to do but surgery. Dr. Elizabeth Boggier has already proven to be the most knowledgeable, compassionate Vet I have met with a bedside manner like none other. She has offered options to treat Lola and for now it seems to be working. What a fantastic experience from such a professional, courteous staff. Thank you for treating my baby girl.

I have been coming here since I've moved into the area. They are hands down the best vet office. They are accommodating, kind, and wonderful. They answer all the questions we have and were able to fit us in during two emergencies we had with our pups. I could never take my puppies elsewhere. They treat both of them with such kindness even when we all know they can be brats. Thank you for always taking care of my little family.

To be completely honest, we walked out so we didn't even get the chance to experience their profession. I'll explain, and you can make your own judgment based on your own experience. We just had baby kittens from a stray we took in not too long ago, and two of the litter had bad infections in their eyes. We called around for emergency visits and eventually stumbled upon Mountainview. They told me there was a 920am appointment and we had to pay the emergency cost. I told them I'd call back if we could make the cost of the emergency visit work. We eventually decided it was the best option for the kittens and took the spot. We rushed over 30 min away to get there and eventually arrived 10 min late. It was raining and we have never traveled with 10 day old kittens before so it was stressful. We finally get there, and there is one person in the waiting room. I check, I'm, fill out paperwork, and they tell me to sit. I have 2 of my kids with me and my wife. 30 min goes by, and the kids start getting rowdy. We calm them down, and I see people leave, but we remain. Mind you, this was an emergency appointment - we had to pay $220 just to be seen. These Kittens are nursing kittens, and they didn't even take into account they needed to be back with their mama. We kept sitting, and now it's going on 1030a. I went up to the front desk to figure out when we were going to be seen. They said it was an emergency visit, so they couldn't even give me a general idea. They also stayed, and they double booked their emergency visits, so it was even longer. That's when I went outside to start making calls. Eventually, I was able to get a hold of a vet closer to my home, and they could get us in basically by the time we go there. They didn't charge an emergency visit price. They looked at all 4 kittens, and overall, we got the medicine we needed, and the kittens are finally on the mend. Again, I can't rate them off of their service - but their office staff, although nice, created a huge problem for a family in need. My experience rates them a 2. They could have been more upfront, courteous, and professional.
